6-1-2 in their last 9. 3rd in the division. One point back of 2nd with a game in hand. 6th best PP % in the league. Barzal and Horvat having their best seasons of their career.

I know that everything sucks and we have to fire everyone and rebuild but just wanted to point that out.

Lane finally figured out how to get 4 lines that work. Now all we need is Lou to trade away the excess so Lane doesn’t start resting guys for load management like he’s done with Hudson Fasching.

I think that the 3rd line needs another tweak. Lee works best with Horvat and Barzal at least. Too many times I noticed the 3rd line getting hemmed in against the jackets in the 2nd period.

Lane didn’t figure out shit to be honest.

Martin getting injured (allowing Fasching to slot in on the 4th line where he belongs) and Gauthier beating out Wahlstrom have been the biggest difference makers. Dare I say Reilly over Aho has helped as well…

The Islanders are in the middle of the pack defensively (with Sorokin having a terrible start to the season) but are still bottom third in the league scoring wise.

I think they need insurance on the left side of the defense because Pelech’s injury history is becoming concerning and Romanov plays a heavy game. After those two, Aho/Bolduc/Reilly are juet bandaids.

I think the biggest hole is in the top six though, their sixth highest scoring forward in Holmstrom with 9 points, not good enough.

that’s cool and all but what I really want as a fan is to have an extra second round draft pick in the upcoming draft

I’m more so talking Martin getting injured forced him to play Fasching and Wahlstrom finally getting replaced by a substantially more deserving player in Gauthier. Wally doesn’t do anything to show he deserves a spot outside of the fact he was drafted high.
Holmstrom should be that 1st line winger but Lee seems to finally be showining his motor turned only 3/4 gear. By February he should be in 1st gear.

I’ll say it again, I want to see Reilly with Dobson and Romanov back with Pulock. They would balance out the top 4 a bit more. When Pelech comes back, send Bolduc down for a conditioning stint. It may be temporary but it’ll help show off a better blueline core at the moment.

Ilya has faced like 40 shots a night on average. I say hold any Sorokin bashing until our defense can figure out how to actually play competently for once. i dont think that our issue is really with Ilya, but moreso Scott Mayfield becoming such a god damn liability along with the terrible 6v5 play as of late.

Could also be like 8-0-1 or something better. Its really the difference between winning an OT game and holding onto a third period. LA, BOS, EDM, and TOR all coming up on the schedule will matter a ton. You really need to also start considering that we only play Philly once more. If they don't cool down, that 0-0 SO loss is going to haunt us hard.

My biggest fear is Lou doubling down on the 4th line and Lambert, when in reality I think those parts are holding us back and hard. I really like Horvat and Barzal. This really is the first time I can safely say that we have a top 6 that's extremely good.

I am assuming Philly goes the way of the Caps soon. They are not likely to maintain what they've been doing

Lane is severely overplaying Mayfield. He doesn’t do well in heavy minute type of situations.

The really funny thing is that the East is pretty mediocre this year. What team is unbeatable in a 7 game series? BOS? There's a bit of deja vu there since they were really unbeatable last year - until the playoffs. The NYR? You kind of have to think that a series between the 2 teams would end up being a battle that could go either way. CAR, NJ, TOR all have question marks.

Barzal seems to be making the simple play more often lately, and doing it much more quickly. If you have a good, open shot, take it right away. If you're running out of time/space and a teammate is open, move it to him immediately. Don't hold it and skate and try to create a perfect tap in play. With his skating and turning ability he's always going to have the ability to create time/space to an extent, but if he doesn't do that every time he'll have more success because he's not always trying to do the hard thing and the opposition won't know what he's going to do every time. Not that complicated.

How is Cal and Casey holding this team back? They have been good this year and they are playing their roles, except for the PK, but that is on all of the personnel.

What's holding this team back is playing a 3rd f***ing period - an extra 20 minutes.
