Gauthier has done nothing his entire nhl career. Why is anyone clamoring to see him in the lineup? Again, If you see Gauthier in the lineup, that means things have drastically gone sideways.
Because he could be Verhaghe…or he could really be just another guy in the junk bin like 98.9% of similarly situated players, but better to believe in the 1.1%.

Sure...why not....let's trade for a d-man who scratched 15 times in the final 20 regular season games, and in all six playoff games.
Minnesota put up over 100 points last year, he went 3G/26A but managed to be -17.

On the other hand, Spurgeon went 11G/23A and was +32

No one came close to that -17 on the team last year

Signing Ness over Spurgeon was another genius decision . . .

I’m surprised that last historical tidbit you referenced doesn’t get more hate on these boards.

It’s not like this team has been averse to signing undersized players in the past.

Could you just imagine Aaron Ness in this lineup?

A pair of A.Ness and Aho would’ve been straight up ass! :sarcasm:

Someone has to actually, I don't know, PLAY BETTER WITH BARZAL
Horvat and Barzal as a duo are actually dangerous. Barzy was looking all night for someone to pass to and had nothing most of the time. He did find Dobson in a few instances, leading to the one goal. Thankfully he didn’t just cough the puck up like years past.

Its actually asinine how this place was trashing Horvat to "oh wow Horvat is...kinda good with Barzal".

You need both. Turns out, adding skilled players makes the team better. Who would have thunkit? Now if only we can get a DeBrincat and a Fox, we'd actually be a contender and not a transient team begging that Ilya and Varly stop over 500 shots a night, and our Captain leads like an actual Captain.

Im just tired of this teams direction. They're set for mediocrity/1st round exit until the team ages out.

This place would trash Mike Bossy if he went a period without a goal in a 10-0 win.

The skill is there and it shows in the first 2 periods when they’re rolling. Lane just needs to stop shortening the bench 3 minutes into the 2nd and worry about that closer to the midway point of the 3rd.

At some point Lane has to either play Gauthier, or just bench Martin. I dont have any digs on Faschings game, he's been fine. Its the bench management and defense assignments that kill this team. Dobson played way too many minutes against the Wild, and he took a very dumb penalty to boot.

The issue is that injuries to the wrong defenders hurt this team. Having both Mayfield and Pelech in make a massive difference. Relying on a pair of Bolduc and Aho just won’t cut it for more then a shift or two. They’re both way too similar and neither are responsible enough defensively to cover for the other.
As for the forwards. Lane does need to play Gauthier but he’s also trying way too hard to push Wahlstrom to do something and after last game, it’ll be a mirror image of the meme of the cartoon with a stick saying “c’mon do something” when he goes invisible. If anything, put Gauthier in vs the next bottom feeder team over Cal and move Lee into the spot with Casey. Give both Martin and Clutterbuck the night off.
Roll these lines:
Barzal-Horvat-Holmstrom
Engvall-Nelson-Palmieri
Fasching-Pageau-Wahlstrom
Lee-Cizikas-Gauthier
