Do people really think Lee looks that bad? He makes a bit too much and the points have not come yet but he is still strong on the puck and will score goals this season. He seems to be in the lower 20 area than the upper 20's though at this point in his career. That being said Lee needs to step up in the leadership department of getting this organization to turn the ship around with holding leads. It is evident after the playoffs and early this season that whatever Lambert is preaching aint working.

Daryll will lose any credit come year 2. I'd rather George Liqour (Gallant) than him.

Well I think his salary and term left is a big factor in why people think he’s “bad”. Maybe that’s not fair to him since he can still be productive in certain roles, but it’s a tough pill to swallow to pay a guy $7 million over the next three years (including this one) to be a third liner who might not reach 40 points. He also seems to have been leapfrogged in the pecking order on the PP. I’d say Barzal, Horvat, Nelson, and Dobson are going to be the focal points going forward and while Lee can still be a force in front of the net, I don’t see our focus being “get the puck to the net and hope for a Lee tip in“ anymore since we have a few more weapons.

Lee had 28 goals the last two years and is shooting at a career low 4% currently despite having the fourth most shots on the team. I think he will be fine but may move into the 20-25 goal area rather than the 25-30 goal area. I would really like to see him show more leadership in these blowing lead situations though.

It’s always safer to trade the unknown for the known but the yield will never be as high as when you do hit on your first round picks
 
There are 3 separate threads on the main board asking about the return that McDavid and/or Draisaitl could net EDM if they go into full rebuild mode. Not that that's relevant to anything we talk about here.

I don't think he looks as bad as people are saying, but I mentioned it early in the season. One of his normal strengths you pointed out just isn't there anymore. It's probably a speed issue, not a strength one, but he doesn't really win many puck battles anymore. He ends up on the ice a lot more than he used to, and he doesn't pull the puck out of the corners as much as he used to. I'm guessing it's reflexes slowing down...not sure. He was never a speed demon, but if he's not good at puck battles or even in front of the net...what's left besides leadership?

Yeah, I get that and I’m not even disputing it. It’s more that I was genuinely surprised after looking at that list… that I never really considered how poor the Isles have drafted when looking at their “good picks.” In the end, they really didn’t yield much.

I would do everything to go grab Draisaitl if it meant trading Barzal, and I say that as someone who loves Barzal. Send the Oilers your best package. Do it. It would not only boost the islanders morale, but it means getting attention globally from Germans. We really need to get positive attention as a franchise again.

I always wondered if it was a bad pick or just bad development. Caufield was an example of a prospect headed to the dirt pile before Montreal got rid of their management and coaching staff, he returns and overnight looked 100 times better. Just shows that there needs to be good players with skill but a solid development is needed to see these picks blossom

Trading McDavid or Draisaitl could get you a lottery ball that could eventually become McDavid or Draisaitl!

IMO the problem with Lee is when he isnt scoring he is a net negative. He is average at best defensively, not much of a playmaker, and he struggles to keep up with the pace of play. He cant PK, if its 4 on 4 hes too slow, and he cant play in OT. Obviously he brings good leadership, but beyond that he doesnt bring much to the table these days. Id love to see him pot 25 goals, but i think 17-22 is more realistic. If he were paid 3 million a year I dont think people would complain, but at 7 million that contract is becoming quite a detriment.

Ha. I agree Lane is an assistant coach at best, to think that even bringing Trotz back (and there's no one like him available) is going to lead to "trophies" is to ignore some serious deficiencies with the actual roster.
 
No Horvat and Mayfield at practice. I hope you all realize how ass this team is going to get when we force Pelech to play over 30 minutes a night now.

Things aren't going much better in Bridgeport right now. Nobody down there is making a case for a callup.

Salo and Maggio should make a case over some of the dead weights, especially Lee. Just saying

At least Horvat is just day to day and Mayfield has maintainance, but you need them healthy against the Bruins.

Different salaries, cap hits, skill sets, etc. The team is also playing a game catering to one of them, not the other, and that one, well, ain’t doing it.

Hey played really well up until he scored his 3-0 goal vs. Carolina. Not so much after that until one play in OT - another area he should excel at, but doesn’t.
