All these things are all true: Wahlstrom is coming back from a major injury. His results had be inconsistent before that. He doesn't have a clear place in the lineup. He does not seem to have a good future in the bottom 6.

This is also true: Kieffer Bellows was much much much worse than Wahlstrom.

Wahlstrom really could use some time in the AHL. But I absolutely believe that he'd be claimed off of waivers. It's a tough spot.

If the Islanders had a legitimate second line instead of just mashing Barzal, Horvat, and Lee together like Barbie and Ken dolls (or two Barbie dolls if that floats your boat), I think we’d be talking a lot less about a guy like Wahlstrom and OK with him just trying to form some type of identity as an NHL player.

The problem is Engvall-Nelson-Palmieri and Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck are the only two lines that have identities.

I think that Barzal & Horvat have been very good together.

The Nelson line IS their 2nd line

Maybe on paper but not in reality.
Any suggestions that it isn't? Because its our best line and constantly generates offense. The real issue is with Lambert deciding to break up Barzal and Horvat. We really need that middle 6 winger for Pageau to stabilize. Holmstrom should be that guy.

Nelson/Palmieri/Engvall are consistently hitting the scoresheet. Horvat looks much improved from last year individually but the production from his line isn’t where it should be for a 1st line.

We are one point behind Tampa and Toronto with a game in hand on each and 2 behind Carolian with 2 games in hand and all we do is COMPLAIN . . .

Last year we scored 2.96 GPG and gave up 2.71 GPG (2.62 this year on defense and on offense)

Can we wait until 20 games and compare those numbers before we rebuild?

4-2-2 and easily could be 6-2. And we're top-heavy right now, with a nice help from the 4th line as CCM have 5G/5A in 8 games

The top 2 lines are producing while the 3rd line hasn't yet. The team shooting % is 8.0 this year, which is actually worse than last year's 9.6%. 263 shots on goal (33 per game is an improvement over less than 31 last year) at 9.6% is four more goals than the 21 we have scored so far. That's the difference between 4-2-2 and 6-2.

We are winning 54% of all the faceoffs too.

Dobson has 2G/7A already, but the ENTIRE rest of the defense has 3 assists! Pulock, Aho and Pelech will do better than that eventually, as has been their history. Mayfield had 6G/18A last year too.

It's not hard to see that we are on the cusp of a potential breakout offensively and if it happens, we could be on a nice run.

Yay us.

I said Horvat looks much improved.

The point is if we’re still trying to find consistent producers for him on his wings, we already have that from Nelson/Palmieri.

There are ebbs and flows with every line. There were stretches of games where the MC2 line was "consistently hitting the scoresheet." Were they the 1st line?

Barzal and Horvat are on the top line. Both on paper and in reality.

That's a good point actually...he should have gone to the A, but the problem is they would have to waive him OR he could have been sent down for a conditioning stint? Not sure why the team didn't send him down for like 10 games. I am sure there is a god reason...probably for cap reasons that he was kept up?

My Dad used to tell me that hot dogs were a nickel when he was a kid.

Imagine what fun Phil Kessel would’ve had back then.
The point being that although they were "conistently hitting the scoresheet," during stretches that year, they were not the 1st line.
