if Parise doesn’t return (which currently looks likely).
Maybe. But considering we're dealing with Lou and one of his longtime players, I would read precisely zero into the lack of public info. And if Parise doesn't come to camp but also doesn't officially announce his retirement, there's always the possibility he rejoins the team in January or something.

Bailey shouldn't get a contract unless you need a body to fill out the final roster for your team. Thats how bad he's gotten.

Was never really a Bailey fan, but must say, do feel for him. At what, 33, he still has his IQ, good hands. Unfortunately the league has figured out his patented 'pass-shot,' oh, and that he can't move around the ice.

The older middle/lower end of the roster guys are going to struggle to find a home. Noone has cap space. The cap needs to start moving up.
Or maybe, teams should stop spending like it’s gonna go up, but then it doesn’t and, oh well, some guys get squeezed out.

He is bad defensively. His IQ is overrated as he has more skill than the production has ever showed. His skating speed and processing speed at this point in his career, are far below league average. He's a true tweener in the sense that he doesn't offer enough offense to merit top 6, and is atrocious defensively to have any value in the bottom 6.

1000+ gp is nothing to sneer at. Overall, for most of his career, his actual production never met his skill level. I don't think he's a positive impact NHLer any longer.

I’d bring in Motte on a PTO if Parise doesn’t return (which currently looks likely).

If they had cap space, Tatar would probably be a nice depth piece who could deepen the lineup and tuck 20 goals.
Of those players, Motte would be of interest, but I find it difficult to believe that he'd sign where he wouldn't be guaranteed a starting slot. If he would, he'd be as good a 13th forward as one could find. Unlike the rest, he has a lot of PK experience. One would have to keep him on the roster always, because at any number near league minimum, he'd be claimed if waived. I imagine, he'll get snapped up by a team when some forward or other suffers a significant injury.

Analytic nerds are mad we aren't back in the 2010's

Without some sort of collusion between owners, that's impossible to really enforce, even in theory. The tyranny of the active minority rules the market.

He's really smart and rarely ever wrong!
It's comical/embarrassing that he has "data" down to the decimal point with the result that the defending Stanley Cup champs are second to last in the league in front office confidence. When he got those results he should've just thrown the whole thing in the trash and gone onto his next "analysis". :dunce: :shakehead

Roster:
It's done fellas. The NHL forward group is already 5+ lines deep, with guys like Holmstrom, Koivula, Dufour, and Durandeau on the farm. The blueline is 6-man deep plus Bolduc, Salo, Cholowski, and Hutton. Goaltending is... no need to say it.

Can't see a UFA or PTO player being added. And if anyone would be, it'd be Parise, likely a few months into the season if injuries hit.

A bit of a shame, because a few of those UFAs still out there look like they'd be a better answer than a couple of guys currently under contract.

I wonder how many "fans" took part in that? I mean, how many Isles fans have a subscription for The Athletic?

The figures displayed here from the public wouldn't surprise me in the least. Even among my general hockey friends, hardly a one of them has any interest for the Isles and generally views them like, "Why does this team even exist?".

But those are some real bleak numbers from the fanbase and look awfully tilted.

What does surprise me is cap management. Love or hate how it's been done, Lou and his staff have been trapeze artists with the cap situations presented since he took over.

I think Parise is back. First preseason game is four weeks away. I feel like we would have heard something by now if he’s not, such as; he’s not in game shape, not working out, not ready for the season… he can’t decide this late that he’s gonna play. He must know what he’s doing. I think he’s back.

I beg to differ. Unless he has extremely early on cognitive delays, his IQ is still there. IQ usually doesn't deteriorate. His footspeed, yes, and that makes it look like he's processing slower. I think he could be a good fit on a rebuilding team, slot him on the 3rd/4th line.

I'll stick with what I've been relaying here since the draft...

If we see Parise, it'll first be during the season, likely when injuries hit.

As another said, there's been no announcement of retirement. I know he was VERY uncertain about continuing his career right after the playoff loss.

But I can really see him and Lou simply biding time, prolly right on through the holidays, and then have him as an ace up the sleeve should it come to that.

Don't forget, the cap and roster are very tight right now as well.

The bolded players will find a place to play.
Erne, White, and Poolparty find a home in Europe, but time is ticking since season has begun.
