Couple UFAs that might be on Chris Lamoriello’s radar based on the group 6 and No QO free agent list…

Logan Brown - C - 6’6” center and former 1st rounder, was essentially PPG in the AHL two seasons ago
Lucas Carlsson - left shot D with 20 goals 34 assists in 61 AHL games last season

Curious to see if they try and add another guy in the way they did with Fasching

Some here saying Debrincat is too small and would do bad in playoffs. Yea he's only 5'8 but he's 180. Stocky guy and had over 100 hits past 2 seasons. If you average it out compared to Isles top 9. He had more hits than Nelson, Barzal, Horvat, Engvall, Parisi, Fashing. Only Lee, Pageau, Wally and Palms had or would have had more. He also had 6 points in 9 playoff games. I know small example but not bad. He's around the same size as Marchessault and he just raised the cup.

I’ve said it before but this fanbase is way too picky. This franchise has enough trouble attracting and retaining talent as it is, if we can get and keep Debrincat we should be thrilled.

Assuming it was a package of Pageau/Palms, Whally, prospect and pick whatever

You have to feel good and admit this would be the best forward group we’ve had in god knows how long. Barzal, Horvat, Cat, Lee and Nelson is pretty great. Lots of different styles

I am shocked deBrincat was not moved during the draft.
It is telling that with all those picks - the Red Wings did not find a deal to be made.

It is difficult for me to imagine JGP is a target for Ottawa unless they are OK with a 5m 4C or they feel Stutzle is more of a LW.

Nelson - Barzal - deBrincat - Horvat as the top 4 F's anchoring the top 2 lines as well as playing together on the PP looks very deadly.
I think this is how the team got into the cap position they are currently in. Palmieri, Lee, Martin, Clutterbuck, and Pageau are all somewhat acceptable contracts independently. Lee and Pageau likely making a million too much but would not have looked as bad had COVID not happened.

The problem is when you start looking at this team needing another elite talent and those contracts are getting in the way.

I’ve been trying to figure out how you can take on the Debrin contract and it definitely means a contract with bigger $$ going the other way. A lot of our big contracts have NTCs on them too. Nelson and Pageau really are the only two who we could maybe trade without someone waiving. And I don’t think Nelson is going anywhere.

What package would you be comfortable with.
Obviously Pageau would be included; he'll most likely want to come back, but what's the other pieces?
I'd much rather move Debrincat to the island than to Detroit.
Wahlstrom and Dobson

And we get Pinto in return also

Wheeler officially bought out. He’s 36. If he’s willing to sign a Parisi type deal or even a little bit more, I’d take him in a heartbeat he still produces over .5 PPG.

FYI

Surprised there isn't any interest in signing Tank. Was rumored he'd accept a trade to the isles. Still produces.
I wanted him when he was available couple of years ago. Preferred Tank, followed by Palmieri as a replacement over Eberle.

Now? It makes me leery that the Isles would sign another 30+ at four years or more.

Maybe if they move Palmieri first AND can keep Tank to three years (doubtful). But I think Lou needs to tread carefully with his new found cap space.

The amount of excuses this fanbase makes NOT to acquire a top end or elite talent is baffling.
I don’t know, maybe the other 31 teams in the league aren’t jumping at him either is a bit of a sign?

The great Steve Yzerman GM on a 100 year rebuild in DET has all the cap space, need, hometown benies, and freebie assets to acquire and he passed.

Debrincat was traded to a has been franchise. So, isles are back to picking up and overpaying - the same thing fans are continuously complaining about.
