Sharks fans that I know are telling me that they believe the sharks would take Bailey's full contract and send us Karlsson for this years second, next years first, Wahlstrom and Salo. If that is actually true, the Isles MUST make that kind of deal. Oh, and they would retain 2.5-3 million on EK.

No question that would be possible, but given the state of this teams' (lack of) assets that doesn't seem to net out as a smart GM move as opposed to buying him out for nothing. Heck - I'd rather play Bailey then have to give up assets to get rid of him.

And others out there have suggested deals where Bailey was a + asset in the deal. That's more of what I was addressing.
Three times in four sentences. Nice work.

Maybe the owners don’t want a rebuild? You seem to think Lou is just doing his own thing w/o any oversight from ownership.

You may be 100% correct that Malkin doesn't want a rebuild for any number of reasons. If it's for business reasons I can respect that even if I wish it weren't. However if Malkin thinks this team can be fixed then I'd be more concerned with his hockey judgment.

Ultimately the buck stops with him so whatever Lou does is ultimately Malkin's responsibility.

I just think to look at the current state of this roster, their age, the salary cap situation, lack of prospects, and lack of draft picks, among other things and to not think that with each passing Lou transaction that a rebuild won't be necessary in the next 2-3 years is anywhere from several denial to total ineptitude.

I mean, Malkin hires Lou, opens new building, makes playoffs 4/5 years under his tenure. Maybe you don’t like it, but for Malkin, it looks pretty good.

Yup - Agree. As of right now Malkin looks like at least the 2nd best owner we've ever had so he gets a big thumbs up so far.

However I still maintain that the #1 reason for the on-ice success the past 5 years was Trotz. Now that he's gone there's no one that can overcome the significant holes with the roster that snow/Lou built. And given that many of the core are aging/have a lot of mileage on their tires, we've already started to sink.

How far we sink depends on how soon Malkin steps in. Thus because Lou only knows "sell off the future for the present," for me each passing Lou transaction pushes back a rebuild that will ultimately need to take place.

I was such a Newhook fan in his draft year, and still think he's going to be great. But yowzas. Montreal's buying high.

They did a similar thing with Kirby Dach last year. They seem to just want to add young talent with upside that didn't fully pan out on their previous team. I've certainly seen worse strategies than that.

Frustratingly the Habs got Dach with the pick we sent to them for Romanov and I'd rather have Dach right now.

thats a high price to pay (Noah Dobson) to get out from the Bailey contract even if you get SJ to eat 25% of Karlssons remaining contract .

I'd rather make a deal with Philly for DeAngelo if they want to spice up the offense .

Are we talking about the same Erik Karlsson? 100 point Norris winner Erik Karlsson? He's a huge upgrade over Dobson AND we get out from Bailey's contract? And they retain on Karlsson? Sorry but I think we probably add here. Dobson's ceiling is probably 70% of what Karlsson is now

I wonder what his ceiling is? He sounds like a Lou type and I believe can play all three F positions. Throwing this out there. Sign and trade for a signed Mayfield. Pure sh@#'s and giggles here.

Last fantasy proposal- If the Jets look to rebuild, what the + + for a Nelson for Kyle Connor swap?

So be it, he’ll sign somewhere as $1.5M max. I just don’t see how the organization is considered to be at fault for this. Essentially, Lambert was right.

The only way Nelson would make sense for the Jets if they’re rebuilding if they flip him.
Ironically Winnipeg is the closest NHL to where Brock grew up in Warroad.
All that being said I wouldn’t trade Brock unless he was part of a package for a sure fire superstar. Connor is close though so I wouldn’t hate it. Then Barzal and Horvat as 1-2 centers with an elite winger in Connor. Would just to lose Brock because he’s the one guy I trust to consistently produce. He’s come a long ways since Lady Jane.

I don't think it's a terrible contract, but given the haul that Winnipeg just got, I'm curious as to what LA is doing.
That Lou for Horvat trade don’t look so bad after seeing that transaction…

PLD ain’t a 8.5M player. They are shoring up the center mark once Kopitar fades out. LA is accelerating their rebuild w/o a goaltender and weak defense.
