I think alot of people forget how young he is. He needs to fillout and play more physical. Id love to see him come into training camp with another 10-15lbs added to his frame. Hopefully he is stapled with Pelech next season. If he has another down year, than sure consider moving him, but i think hes going to breakout.
That also must mean we put Horvat in the right place

I legit don't understand how anyone thought Bailey would bring back ANYTHING in a trade.

Before we even discuss his age, contract, production, etc...When your own team healthy-scratches a player (and they need any scoring help they can get) you've literally told the market that the player is worth nothing.

I think the thought process was that you could attach an asset to him and get rid of him.

The Hawks seem like the only team that would consider taking him for free - they could possibly use an additional veteran.

Maybe we can get the Hawks (or AZ) to take him for free while we retain slightly less of a cap hit we'd otherwise get for buying him out?

Otherwise, he's getting bought out. And I'd much rather buy him out than give up a 2nd round pick. We don't have the luxury of doing that at this point.

What is Briere doing in Philly? Horrible return for Hayes. Good deal for the Blues 3.5 million for 3 years of Hayes. He should be a good 3rd line center for them. Hopefully Lou is looking into Samheim.

How is this a mystery at all? We don't need a 2nd hand report saying there's interest in Krug to know this.

Lou is GM. That means you'll never rebuild (even if it would be smart to do).

For those out there hoping for a rebuild you must first hope for a new GM.
Maybe the owners don’t want a rebuild? You seem to think Lou is just doing his own thing w/o any oversight from ownership.

I mean, Malkin hires Lou, opens new building, makes playoffs 4/5 years under his tenure. Maybe you don’t like it, but for Malkin, it looks pretty good.

He’s doing the easy work of getting rid of anything and everything- this is the ‘fun’ part, it buys time for an inexperienced mgmt team, they now have 3 years from this draft to show progress to buy more
Time.

No one did. Just some other team's bad contract, or to make the cap work as part of a bigger deal. We know he has no (negative) value.

Nobody with a clue wants a rebuild.

If you think Dobson is bad defensively, just wait until you see Karlsson play defense.

I would be happy adding Karlsson, but not if it means losing Dobson.

Don’t disagree about Karlssons D. However it is easier to swallow when he’s putting up 70 pts. Could be a huge answer to a really bad PP. Three time Norris trophy winners don’t just come available everyday. Has to be tempting for Lou…

You are right, like i said I would be on board for Karlsson, but not if the price is Dobson. I just think Dobson has too much potential to move for a 33 year old defenseman that has missed a ton of time over the past 5 seasons and is abysmal defensively. The sharks PP was 25th last year, so I dont think he alone would be the answer to all of our PP problems. The Sharks are selling high on Karlsson, we would be selling very low on Dobson.

I could be completely off base but I faintly remember Karlsson saying something along the lines of the islanders are a joke organization (totally paraphrasing) during the Capuano/Snow days.

Obviously a ton has changed since then, but I wonder if he feels differently about us now or if it would affect his decision if he were asked to waive for LI.

No question that would be possible, but given the state of this teams' (lack of) assets that doesn't seem to net out as a smart GM move as opposed to buying him out for nothing. Heck - I'd rather play Bailey then have to give up assets to get rid of him.

And others out there have suggested deals where Bailey was a + asset in the deal. That's more of what I was addressing.

What a fun day this is so far!

Seeing what Newhook is bringing in, how do we NOT look at what Barzal or Nelson would be worth?
