Happy Lou didn't bite on Krug, even if the Flyers retained half. Four years is just way too much. If anything, the Isles should be looking at players signed short term. Hockey contracts are just way too long in any case.
I would've been fine if the Flyers retained money IMO.

I am truly stunned that Lou didn't bite.
Well why would he bite when he would have to eat 7M on a guy who has stats like this? I like Krug, but 7M and only 32 points last season is a hard pass

thats a high price to pay (Noah Dobson) to get out from the Bailey contract even if you get SJ to eat 25% of Karlssons remaining contract .

I'd rather make a deal with Philly for DeAngelo if they want to spice up the offense .

So, a locker room issue vs a Norris Trophy winner?

If you want to improve the team, then draft and hope with an impatient fanbase or use assets to upgrade the skill set and push on.

If you think Dobson is bad defensively, just wait until you see Karlsson play defense.

I would be happy adding Karlsson, but not if it means losing Dobson.

Dobson is also very young, so if he can use that body of his, then good. I just want to see improvements from him in 2023-24. This also means the isles MUST improve their defense should Scotty go off the market

Krug - all the more information to demonstrate Isles are looking to compete vs rebuild.

How is this a mystery at all? We don't need a 2nd hand report saying there's interest in Krug to know this.

Lou is GM. That means you'll never rebuild (even if it would be smart to do).

For those out there hoping for a rebuild you must first hope for a new GM.

A buyout for Bailey potentially. Oof.

Good on the fact that Lou cannot trade away future assets though. I really hope that Lou is seeing something nobody else does in this current roster.

I appreciate your feedback. I will disagree with you on Panarin. That was the offseason where we lost JT. Lou had money and wanted to make a splash with Panarin. When he didn't get him, even though it's been known that he out bid the Rangers, he pivoted and re-signed Lee.

I also don't have high hopes for Horvat just the simple fact before last year with Van. He was a 50pt player his entire career.

Mind you, I want to be 1000% wrong on everything I have said so far. I want Lou and you to throw it in my face....wouldn't care if that means our Isles are winning again. So Lou, Please prove me wrong and everyone hear can throw it back and me and I will happily take it :hockey::stanley:

Sorry for the delayed reply, I was busy yesterday evening.

He missed on Panarin, yes. That's what we're going to be angry about though, a single miss on a star player? You're going to be upset a lot. The Islanders are second fiddle to the Rags and will be forever unless they turn to absolutely dogshit for an extended period of time while the Islanders are a playoff team every year. It is what it is.

There are two things that make me hopeful about Horvat. The first is that he can't possibly be as bad as he was once he got to the Islanders and having a full summer and training camp should help. The second is that the salary cap will finally start to go up now and will make some of these deals better over time unless something catastrophic happens.

Problem lies in "well, where is he gonna go?" We really cannot sacrifice pick #49, especially with how weak our prospect pool is

I legit don't understand how anyone thought Bailey would bring back ANYTHING in a trade.

Before we even discuss his age, contract, production, etc...When your own team healthy-scratches a player (and they need any scoring help they can get) you've literally told the market that the player is worth nothing.

And he's been replaced by this roster anyways. Means more Simon Holmstrom (hell yeah, forecheck man is good), but the issue lies in the cap penalty. iirc its like 1M for the next few years?

I think alot of people forget how young he is. He needs to fillout and play more physical. Id love to see him come into training camp with another 10-15lbs added to his frame. Hopefully he is stapled with Pelech next season. If he has another down year, than sure consider moving him, but i think hes going to breakout.
