Not necessarily. Former PR director, probably has some connections. But honestly none of these reports are as reliable as Lou's past actions...

Botta did say on draft night that NYI/VAN was close on Miller and he believed it got nixed because VAN wouldn't let NYI talk extension. All of that news officially unfolded days later, so I would say he has sources.

Reliable? That's a big subjective for me.

Alexander Edler is a veteran LHD that probably won't require a huge salary or more than 1 year term. Might be a nice fit to fill the Greene/Chara mentor role and play 40-50 games.

NYI beats NJD (and I'd argue PHI) arena-wise and NYI has had more playoff success the last few years than both of those teams combined.

Long Island is probably a 30-40 flight on a private charter to where he's from in South Jersey.

Maybe he just wants to play in a nice building, have a shot at winning, and be close to home.

Sure PHI is the closest to home and their building is fine, but the chance of winning is slim. NJD has the worst building of the three, and has a chance at winning in the future, but they haven't done so yet. Also it's probably a 90 minute drive home. NYI is the furthest away but has the best building and the best chance of winning.

If Gaudreau makes it past midnight, I think the true competition will certainly be more than just the Devils/Flyers/Islanders. I'd imagine any team that's able will throw their hat in the ring, with quite a few serious offers tossed around. Could see a dark horse coming out of nowhere and snagging him.

Gaudreau is not coming here, period. Around 12:15 tomorrow after he signs in PHI we’ll get a fabricated James Nichols tweet saying “Isles made a competitive offer for Gaudreau, but I’m told he wanted to be closer to home” and then we’ll sign a depth defenseman.
