I dont know why people do this.Nino at $4,200,000 is good value - 24 goals in 71 games and 4 in the playoffs. I certainly think he fits our need better than Bailey.
Last year I talked about how if you can't get the top winger, you can upgrade the 3rd line and make up the difference there. We scored 229 goals in 82 games last year (2.79 per game) and 152 in 56 games the previous year (2.71 per game), with 54 in 19 playoff games (2.84).
If we don't land the big fish, we still can get there with some internal improvement from the kids and one more mid-6 winger putting up 25 goals.
Still would love Gaudreau or Tarasenko but there are other paths too.
Lee & Nelson - 30
Barzal - 25
Palmieri - 25
Nino - 25
Beau - 20
Wally - 20
Pageau - 15
Dobson - 15
Parise - 15
4th line - 25 if Martin/Johnston are not playing
Defensemen not named Dobson - 25 goals
etc
It's hard, but doable. That's 270 goals in 82 games and we win a lot of games
Lou or the Islanders? When you are behind the 8-ball as a franchise, then you have to overpay in $ or term. It is what it is until the fortunes change.Lou always gives too many years. If we get him, it'll unfortunately be three or four.
We are now entering the perennial "the Isles are in the mix to get so and so" part of the program by all of the NHL pundits, just to find out that we signed a 35 year old to a 4 year contract.
Leads me to believe they have a good idea they are going to land Johnny
I think the Isles are feeling that some combo of Salo, Aho and Hutton are the depth. But with that said, Lou does tend to do a late summer camp PTO guys. They would likely re-visit someone like him much later... Lol, which for Lou it basically means on-time.One guy that I think the Isles should look into is Erik Gustafsson. He looked good last year at camp, we had to let him go. But at 800K he is an option IMO as a depth D to replace Chara or Greene.
If you watch Nino actually play, then you realize he's kinda meh overall. However, people just look at the stats and 'the one that got away' mentality. He's been a decent player, that's about it.I dont know why people do this.
Yes, he had a nice season last year (24-20-44 in 71 games for a per82 of 28-23-51) which was very similar to his 25-32-57 campaign of 2016-17 with the Wild....
Unfortunately, those were outliers.
In his "other" 8-odd seasons he has a per82 of 19-19-38. so, no he isn't guaranteed 25 goals by any stretch of the imagination....
Beauvillier, who is almost 5 years his junior has a higher career average than that....
If you are looking for adding a third line goal scorer, I just soon find another Parise for 1/4th the cost and years....
Big (Ni)No
Without any Trade or movement restrictions too. So he is definitely a competitive disadvantage to the Isles if trying to move Bailey.$7M cap hit, $5M cash.
Lou has his guy!
Dumpster diving Isles fans ::sigh::One guy that I think the Isles should look into is Erik Gustafsson. He looked good last year at camp, we had to let him go. But at 800K he is an option IMO as a depth D to replace Chara or Greene.
Del Zotto??? Really???I think the Isles are feeling that some combo of Salo, Aho and Hutton are the depth. But with that said, Lou does tend to do a late summer camp PTO guys. They would likely re-visit someone like him much later... Lol, which for Lou it basically means on-time.
Del Zotto was brought up earlier (personally not keen on him specifically), but maybe there is a similar 1-1.5M, one year contract d-man the Isles can just swap Panik for?

Reading comprehension you chucklehead! I wrote I'm not keen on him. Just someone at a similar one year contract in exchange for Panik. Basically, instead of a vet like Panik, a Dman with similar deal. Now he can hang out with Matt Harvey during his trial.

Del Zotto??? Really???
He has a $1M bonus for this year, which may bring his cash down to $4M for the acquiring team. Bailey is $5M cap, $3.5 M cash plus another year.Without any Trade or movement restrictions too. So he is definitely a competitive disadvantage to the Isles if trying to move Bailey.
I’m all for cheap puck movers for the number 6DI think the Isles are feeling that some combo of Salo, Aho and Hutton are the depth. If PHI is trying to move JVR, then that's a signal he's going to PHI. Happy to have Fletcher creating a trainwreck in PHI in the Isles division. (unless in some odd way they also net P Kane too).So you're saying there's a chance.....because we ain't got the money.
I still think it he takes that 80+ million.....This isn't about money. Gaudreau is going to "pull a Tavares" and move back closer to home (northeast US).
*Also at 10M that is an overpay.
