that article stated 4 years of underwhelming college yet he had 41 points in 38 games this season and 25 points in his last year at BU.

this is the type of guy Dubas probably snags to deepen the Pens a bit

4 years of underwhelming at BU is like 4 years of pretty good at Vermont.

Robert Mastrosimone's a 2019 2nd rounder by DET, from Bay Shore. Wonder if we luck into a hometown prospect signing with his hometown team if he doesn't sign in DET by August deadline

Trade Bailey for his rights

For those out there that thought a higher cap would help Lou out (or that he planned for it)...

I'm confused with this Robert Mastrosimone...

Which one is he? Or is it like Master-Blaster and they come as a set?

Evan Rodrigues is intriguing to me depending on the price.
Call me old fashioned but I want Parise back and the isles need to double or triple his salary . 1 more year 2.5 mill is still a bargain for a guy whos motor never stops and shows up every night. Rod is certainly intriguing . Engvall or Rod ? Well different styles of player, Engvall can carry the puck and we don’t have but a couple few players that can do that. It’s all about the right mix . Both these guys might cost about the same $.

todays great news would be Mayfield 3 X 3 , JPs kid 1 x 2.5, and Varly 2 x 3..
We can dump Clutter Martin and Bailey during the week ..LGI

The Mayfield deal won't happen as mentioned here because he'll get WAY more on the market and this is his one big UFA shot. A hometown deal is imaginable, but it'd take a bit more money and a lot more years than you're mentioning here.

As for the bolded, Parise just played for 750 k. He ain't gonna be here if he'd be requiring 3x as much next season. Who'd even suggest that?

As for Varlamov, those mentioning being fine with him at 2.5 per are already pushing it. Fact is, Sorokin is gonna have to get paidddddd in that next contract and the back-up goalie position is about the only "safe" spot right now where Lamoriello can save CONSIDERABLE cap space. To be honest, he's gotta fill that role with a player earning 2 MM or less (preferrably less) OR move Bailey to a team in return for a current back-up goalie earning a bit too much for that team's comfort, but still less than Bailey (and his 3 MM cash + 5 MM hit).

Simply re-signing Varly at anything above 2 MM per is making very poor use of one of the few places that afford wiggle room capwise.

And, well, we're seeing a team in the SC finals with Adin friggin' Hill in goal.

Adin friggin' Hill.

Let that sink in.... especially after Lyon backstopped the Kitty Kats into the playoffs with an improbable run.

Most in-the-know people viewing the Isles from the outside would surely say you sure AF don't need more than a Hill or a Lyon backing up Sorokin. There are a few of them out there.

Isles were still doing 1a/1b at that point. Not really gonna win a Vezina in that kind of situation. This year it's serious contention because he had the reigns (and carried the team).
You do realize Sorokin played 52 games to Varlamov’s 31 games in 2021-22. Same amount as Shesterkin played in 2021-22 (and he WON the Vezina), in fact Sorokin played 1 minute more than Shesterkin in 2021-22 (3072 minutes to 3071). Neither Sorokin or Shesterkin were 1a at that point, they were #1 and their backups were #2.

No, I didn't realize that. Thanks for clarifying. However, there was still the feeling around the league and with the team that Sorokin was not the clear cut number 1, and to start the season Varly was injured so of course Sorokin had to play. I get what you are saying that he should have been in the conversation, but Vezina is one of those weird trophies where they seem to take a lot more into account than just numbers.

Record profits and the cap only goes up 1M...

Where does the money go?

This also hurts us because we cant even do much. I hate it here.

As @JKP mentioned the owners need to be paid back for the lost revenue during COVID. That will be completed before the end of next season so the salary cap with see a significant bump next summer.

Interesting read from Allan Walsh on the escrow situation:

The players kept their full salaries during the shortened seasons and as a result it skewed the 50/50 HRR balance.

They are basically paying back a 1.1B loan (~70M remaining) and until its paid off the ceiling (cap) is fixed in growth as per the MOA. For every 1M in cap growth its basically an additional 32M in costs.

There may be another obstacle on the horizon. The bankruptcy of Bally Sports and the amount of revenue teams make from local broadcasts. This is causing teams to reshape how they air their games. If there is a decrease in revenue from this source wouldn’t it affect the cap taking that big bump in 2024-25?

I'm not sure, I've read conflicting reports about the impact it'll have.

what I'm concerned about is if the nhl allows them to renegotiate the rsn contracts as a ''better than nothing'' deal then who's to say MSG (and other rsn's) ask for their assorted deals to be renegotiated as well

May not be bad in the long run… if it leads to the Isles leaving MSG sooner. Would prefer the Isles go it on their own and/or team up with other local sports teams.

Don’t care for any of MSG, Dolans, Rangers or ESPN and TNT for that matter.
