Pagnotta is usually solid on his Islander rumours. Gaudreau is exactly the offensive catalyst that the Islanders need to free up Barzal. He is a darn good hockey player with special talents. He is a player that can get a ransom, but maybe he wants to go to a place to win and to be back east. I think a Kucherov type of contract by the Isles can potentially land him. 9.5 x 7 years would put the Isles in the game. Johnny and his wife are east coasters Philly and NJ. Interesting if Pagnotta's sources are right.

He was the guy I wanted when we limped out this season. I don't care who we have to move to make the cap work, Gaudreau would make the Isles a whole different caliber of team. You cannot key on Barzal or Gaudreau if they are on separate lines.

If he wants to sign with NYI, then heck take the gamble.

I wonder if Malkin moving on, does Johnny see an opening in PIT. Would be a great move for PIT and he gets 3-4 years of playing with Sid.
I could see PIT going after Giroux. He's 34, so no 35+ contract risk like Malkin. And Hextall the GM knows Giroux from Philly. He could be the 2C behind Sid, and join him on the PP.

I feel like Pagnotta has really been hit or miss since the Tavares garbage. Don't know what to believe when it comes to him, but Gaudreau would be perfect for this team.

I don't think Pittsburgh makes sense if he wants to play reasonably close to Philly.

Pittsburgh is like 3x the distance away from Philly than NJ/NYC is despite being in the same state.

Seems like there’s $11mm to play with, plus new deals for Dobson and Romanov. What would be the plan if Johnny is signed? Buyout Bailey? Varly could be moved, but who would be in need of a goalie after FA?

I find Pagnotta and Friedman the most likely to break Isles rumours. I know Lou leaks nothing. He got pretty close to John Shannon and Bob Mckowan when he was in Toronto, and even before that with Shannon 3 decades on HNIC. Friedman was close to these guys. He always gets tidbits. Pagnotta broke the Tavares signing beating all the bigger shots. He is solid through my experience. Remember these guys only break what are fed to them. But I suspect there is an Islander source. Which is far different the Eklund speculation. Isles almost never get the big UFA, so best to see it before getting too excited. But it did perk me up when I read this one.

Quick math is Isles have 11.1M capspace. Move Bailey, that makes 16.1. 9.5 for Gaudreau, leaves Isles 6.6, The other obvious move is Varly. That would get it done for this season with room to make a few more tweaks. The first chip will have to fall before the pieces start moving. I am sure Lou and the war room are ready to move with premade moves if Johnny chooses the Island.

The sky is not falling if the Islanders sign Gardeau first without the cap space.

They have plenty of options to clear space without it needing to be a buyout lol.

Would have been a better negotiating position to have cleared the space first, but you take the risk of not getting anyone better than who you cleared the space for... (hopefully some prelim talks have been made though)

For those looking to attach a mid-round pick to unload Bailey now, you probably get your wish or they will move Beau, who is the more attractive piece...

Or after the goalie starved teams that are still circling without open chairs they can call us about Varlamov if necessary....

Still think Calgary inks him tonight or tomorrow though, especially since we just had our first "NYI to pursue him" tweet...

Sens viewing this as a salary dump.

Leafs viewing this as the last piece needed for a cup or to get passed the 1st round

Done Ottawa sends Murray a 3rd and a 7th plus retains only 25% of salary to toronto. 4.687500 would have been much further ahead to keep campbell at 5m

Dubas will be fired and we’ll have to go through new GM X is going to turn everything around and we’re going to win the cup.

I love that Tavares and the leafs haven’t won shit. Feel for Matthews and Marner because I actually like them and they’re great players. Hope they find their way out of Toronto. Especially Matthews

Ok, so I was listening to his conversation that netted the tweet. In the conversation, he mentioned the Isles in passing, it was very throwing darts. It was framed as his own speculation. Now, his tweet was more affirmative. A little inconsistent on how he framed things differently based on the medium.

Columbus did not qualify Gabriel Carlson, he might be a perfect 6th/7th LHD for us, and would come cheap.
