I am not saying this is the approach I would suggest, but this in a way does give Lou the option of going the Tampa "cheating route." We can wait until right at the trade deadline, acquire up to 8-9 million worth of players, LTIR Barzal and then potentially have him come back for the playoffs where there is no cap and possibly have added a top 6 winger and a middle pairing dman. Just saying I would not put this strategy past Lou.
Thing is, that doesn’t change that the Isles don’t have enough of what’s needed in assets to acquire the kinds of players that make that amount.

EDIT: Is it at all a sign that I responded to someone named Satan for my 6666th post?

Ishkahov yes maybe but Dufour isn’t ready. Durandeau has earned the shot first though.
I think Dufour is. His game has actually become more solid in Bridgeport since his return and I'd have no trouble giving him more than the 9 minutes Lambert gave him on the Barzal line. As for Durandeau, I know you've been touting him and Wotherspoon but I just don't see it with Spoon, and Durandeau I'm leery of when the game comes at him. Like Wotherspoon he is turnover prone at the AHL level and I don't see it getting better for him up here.

If Durandeau gives us a 3 game adrenaline rush like Fasching did when he was first called up I'd be satisfied with that.

Mark Jankowski on waivers. Why not?

Man is all defense, but had strong defensive impact against tough matchups, but I bet Isles just roll with their own guys at this point, he is only marginally better then some of their guys, if he PKed a lot more and had any semblance of being able to deny chances on his own that would help. He recovers the puck and gets it out of the zone enough though.

My mind is wandering a bit but 2 remarkably unlikely scenarios are still on the table.

1. The Isles miss the playoffs, win the lottery and get Bedard.
2. The Isles keep this year’s first round pick then miss the playoffs next year, possibly related to a key injury or two, and then win the 2024 lottery but transfer the puck to Vancouver.

Which is more likely? Neither one to be fair but #2 would be my selection.

He’s formerly from Lou’s Providence. Not there at the same time of course.

Anyone know why he’s missed so many games the last two years?
all i can find is that he had upper body injury in early march 2021, then covid protocol late march same year

Hopefully not ACL like Walstrom
it's not a great sign when Lambert is being asked about his availability for training camp and not giving an answer

I see we've graduated from "lets tank this year!" to "let's tank this year AND next year!"

If this team misses the playoffs next year after getting Horvat there is a big huge massive problem lol this summer is about re tooling and getting right. If you can’t fit the right pieces around Barzal, Horvat, Nelson, Pelech, Dobson and Sorokin then idk what the hell to tell you. Islanders owners should be guaranteeing playoffs next year. Anything else simply isn’t good enough. Retools are done in a summer. Not years.

my unlikey scenerio is the Caps suck worse than us and the young teams behind us and Fla all falter and Horvat and Sorokin carries the team into a playoff spot and Lou and Lane are hailed as heroes

And Chara comes out of retirement in the summer and Lou signs him to a 2 year deal.

Nelson is worth at least 2 late firsts +...it's entirely possible. We can always add a small + if there is a difference to be made.
We would not be able to replace nelsons production with any free agent or anyone in the minors.

I dont see how we trade Nelson until we know what is happening with the 1st round pick sent to the Canucks. Hypothetically if we finish in the bottom 12 this year I dont think you could move Nelson and start a retool without a 2024 1st. If the 2023 1st goes to Vancouver I am all for starting a retool led by a new GM and coach.

And Chara comes out of retirement in the summer and Lou signs him to a 2 year deal.

If Lou is still here in the summer we have a major problem.

Agree completely.

If you’re tearing it down it would be insane to do so in the offseason if Vancouver holds our non-protected first round pick.
