IR opens up the roster spot. LTIR wouldn’t be necessary until the Islanders hit the cap max. We’re not there yet.
So Barzal injured does not necessarily lead to the Isles accruing more cap space by the deadline? Correct? If the Isles fall out of the playoff race, was hoping to at least gain lower picks by holding cap hits and the such.

EDIT: accruing

Barzal’s injury is terrible news that’s obvious.

I’ll look at it as having a possible silver lining in that it keeps Lou from trading yet more first round picks, Dufour and/or Bolduc. Perhaps he goes the more sensible route and tries to acquire future picks or prospects at the TDL.

Maybe.

We stop accruing when we put someone on LTIR is the way I understand it.

We had space i believe before this but this should 100% be part of the deadline strategy.
I wonder, Bailey and Mayfield for Zboril, Reily and Smith. Something like that. Not sure what the market for Mayfield is tbh. In an odd turn of events, I don't think anyone is desperate for an RD that is contending. EDM? Would be a good add for the Bruins though. Could retain 50% if it matters. A Reilly buyout would be cheaper than Bailey if he isn't worth the one year 3mil next season. Zboril can defend but doesn't do much else. 6\7? We're not getting a first for Mayfield so.

Was he there? I actually watched the last 10 min.
Lol. He agitated all game. Was entertaining to watch the former Leafs allstar doing his thing.

There is no reason William Dufour or Ruslan Ishkakov shouldn’t be on a plane to Pittsburgh right now.

Fasching, Martin, Johnston just ain’t gonna cut it. Neither will Bailey when he returns.

Who do you replace Pageau with?
And what kind of return do you expect?
If you want to shake things up, then Nelson is the one you move… you grab a top prospect and a first and clear 6m from the cap - use that $ to add a new piece to the new core

There is a reality that isles keep Nelson and Pageau - resign Mayfield, sign a cheap back up and if they clear Bailey’s contract - they could fit Chychrun and his 4.65 aav.
Pageau has just one goal at 5v5 this season. I don't think finding a replacement should be that hard!

Too many injuries at this late point of the season.

I'm thinking this is on purpose. The team knows that Horvat alone isn't gonna get us the cup, so sneaky Lou says..."Hey Barzy...fake an injury so we can win Bedard in this draft and I buy you an ice cream". We have to do it this way so we can sell assets for this draft and use it as an excuse so the owners don't get mad! :thumbu::sarcasm::nod::naughty::D

Two 4th lines.

2 x 2nd lines and 2 x 4th lines

On another note...On the TJ/Gumpy podcast...They said we might be able to trade Nelson to Colorado for 2 x 1sts and Girard. If that could be pulled off, I'd take it!

I think it was the athletic that did a poll with GMs on who the best d are in the league. Toews was listed in the top 10.

Barzal being injured in itself doesn't get them to add more cap space at the deadline. From a technical standpoint, they can likely pick up someone with a cap hit and in a corresponding roster move switch Barzal to LTIR to allow them to go over the cap #. but the benefit in what type of pick it would land is almost nothing.

Those dudes don’t seem to really be in the actual know. No different than us here.

Ishkahov yes maybe but Dufour isn’t ready. Durandeau has earned the shot first though.

I am not saying this is the approach I would suggest, but this in a way does give Lou the option of going the Tampa "cheating route." We can wait until right at the trade deadline, acquire up to 8-9 million worth of players, LTIR Barzal and then potentially have him come back for the playoffs where there is no cap and possibly have added a top 6 winger and a middle pairing dman. Just saying I would not put this strategy past Lou.
