Horvat's playing style almost sounds a bit like a Tavares type game. So how about recreating the old magic with:

Lee - Horvat - Bailey;
Nelson - Barzal - Palmieri?
There are similarities for sure. I just wouldnt mess with the Lee-Nelson-Palmieri line. Short lived line but 4 goals For and only 1 Against and really good Advanced Stats numbers. They click super well. Good on the cycle, good in transition and dogs in front of the net.

4.Carolina wasn’t adding Horvat without the possibility of an extension. Depending on how roles shake out on Long Island, would the Hurricanes pivot to Pageau? Certainly feels like a Brind’Amour-esque player.”

This is interesting thought from Friedman. It was rumored in the summer that Lou was listening on a few players. I could see Pageau being one. High cap hit for a bottom 6 center. That being said I can’t see Lou trading him in the division without getting back something significant.

Could make sense to eventually move out Pageaus cap and allocate that money towards scoring help on the wing. Especially if we re-sign Horvat

Off-season move if it happens. Not sure why or how it could though since the idea of Horvat is to help create offense and dropping Nelson down the lineup likely hurts more than helps. A big time winger would need to be acquired to make that kind of move at this point.

I just don't believe it. Everyone knew he wanted to sign in Minny and no surprise he signed in Minny that summer.

Think this is him just trying to save face after the whole Minnesota Wild thing ended badly.
The loan sharks weren’t going to follow Vanek to St Paul.

New guys I'd target:

We need another forward. Raty was in the current lineup and a depth player. Beau was a regular.

Sam Lafferty is a player I'd target. My gripe with Hudson Fasching replacing Clutterbuck in the lineup is the lack of PKing. Lafferty PK's and is above 52% on the draw. He plays every position according to sites that list them off so he seems like a good utility player. Signed on for next year too at 1.15.

JVR. Gives us a scoring LW with size and net front presence. I think this would allow Holmstrom to go down and work on his game.

Shayne Ghost. Left handed D that can move the puck and is a PP threat.

Nick Bjustad is a giant and cheap.

Isn't Bjustad just about done? He's having a decent year in Arizona but was pretty bad for quite a few before that.

if I’m the islanders I’m now doing Two things if Lou is really going all in…

1) Varlamov 50% retained to the kings for a 1st rounder and Copley
2) Mayfield to a western contender (oilers?) for a first rounder.

Then make 2 more moves

1) kings 1st rounder and Ishakov to the blues for Vladdy Tarasenko

2) trade 2023 2nd and Bode Wilde to the coyotes for Ghost and

Get ourselves back into first round and further upgrade the team. Bolduc takes over on bottom pair with ghost aho 7D

You don’t do what Lou just did and weaken your strength by trading Varlamov. Copley is the Hamburglar, a flash in the pan, not Tim Thomas.

Sorokin goes down and you have a 1st round pick in your pocket, but a sieve in net. Don’t think the owners would be too happy.

I don’t think Carolina ever replaced Trochek if I remember correctly, so Pageau makes sense for them.

How it makes sense for NYI, I am not sure yet.

Domi and Lafferty make sense, especially if they trade Pageau for picks/prospects...

Parise-Cizikas-Fasching/Holmstrom

or

Is there any possibility that VAN didn’t allow teams to talk to Horvat because his ask was so absurd that if teams knew it they would stay away?
its sort of that idea in that what if they allowed us to talk to him and we decided we couldn’t sign him but our deal was best deal, Canucks would hurt their ability to make best deal.

Why Lafferty? Andreoff is cheap and he works hard too or we still have Koivula AND Bardreau. We are stocked up on 4th liners.

Now that I'm looking at Bridgeport's roster..I had no idea Lamberts nephew was in our system (jimmy)

Can’t see Pageau being traded, they’d move Bailey for cap purposes i believe way before. I do think it’s good chance Mayfield is traded either way. I don’t see us fitting him into cap structure and I’d imagine we could get a late first for him.

Why not just trade him if he is that bad at everything.
If he returns a first round pick and someone who is 22 and cost controlled? Absolutely!

Any way you can make over this roster should be on the table. The only untouchables should be Sorokin, Pelech, and Dobson. That is all.

Anaheim has 3 UFA d-men that can help with the transition to help the forwards. I think Lou lands one of them. If Lou wanted Schenn, then he could of had him packaged in the Horvat deal, which leads me to believe he wants an offensive guy, not a steady eddy type.

Domi and Dadonov seem realistic and would both be welcomed additions. I feel we may need another defenseman as well.
...and Domi was on London Knights with Horvat.

One thing I didn't know: Koneckny is Horvat's second cousin.

I was looking through some of the names listed above plus some other pending UFAs and am not really seeing much. I'm sure Lou would like Acciari (Providence alum to boot), but he might be redundant to what they already have (unless they're worried about health of Clutterbuck and/or Fashing).

Has anyone mentioned Nick Holden? Could be a cheap LHD depth option if OTT decides to move him.

But I suspect Lou will either go bigger or do nothing. I could also see him trying to move out salary as part of a deal. That's where I keep coming back to AZ with Chychrun and Schmaltz.
