No idea, but I don't think it would be as much as people think, this is a buyers market there isn't a lot of cap to go around on the playoff teams.

I agree with Tarasenko. He's also way more of a rental than Horvat so I'd expect the price to be more palatable if a team went that route.

Dave pagnotta said Whally may be out for the year. Clutter obviously has his injuries. We traded Beau and Ratty so our depth is going to be tested. Eyes out for the waiver wire!

I do not doubt it watching the injury. That leg definately went in a very unnatural direction.

Wilde is an offensive dman currently on pace for a 20 point season in the ECHL. What about that screams he is a lock for the AHL to you? I'm not even sure he's an ECHL player at this point.
He would be there so they could keep a btter eye on his development. im sure all of the situation he has himself in has not been great on his game. Even if he played sparingly to start they would want him developing in bridgeport.

I highly doubt anyone is that invested in trying to get Bode Wilde to pan out. Seems a lot more likely that they've given up on him and are just keeping his rights because no one else wants them and there is that slim chance that maybe he raises his value enough that someone would give up something for him. Same as what happened with Ho-Sang.

If his development was as important as you think it is to them, one would expect they'd bend the rule to at least let him play in Worcester. That they won't even do that is pretty telling, IMO.

I believe if they announced that he was out for the year he'd have to go on LTIR which would mean the team would accrue less cap space moving towards the deadline. Could be wrong though.
Partially correct. When you put a player on LTIR, you can go over the cap limit by the amount of that player's AAV minus your total cap space at the time the player is put on LTIR. So, if your cap space is greater than the player's cap hit you would get no benefit of going over the cap limit while they remain on LTIR, though you would still accrue cap space due to being under the cap limit. On the other hand, if the team's total cap hit is closer to the limit, you can go over the limit by more, but doing so means you won't accrue cap space while you are over the limit. You would still accrue cap space if they go back under the limit, though.

Since it wouldn't be difficult to stay under the limit whether Wally is on LTIR or not, I suspect it has more to do with wanting to first get the cap as close to the limit as they can. Doing so before putting him on LTIR allows them to maximize how much they can then exceed the limit by for the time Wally is on LTIR.

I don't think there's any requirement that makes a GM place a player on LTIR, it's just an option if they want to use it. I could be mistaken though.

Hopefully they have a spark after the break and start to climb back into it. If they are still solidly in the mix at the TDL go out and get Tarasenko with whatever ammo you have left and make a go of it. That'd be two massive offensive upgrades on a team that is still as of today somehow operating at a positive goal differential. Barzal/Nelson/Lee/Horvat/Tarasenko/Pelech/Dobson/Sorokin/4th line bruisers - who would want any part of that in the playoffs?

I was about to post how I wouldn't mind seeing Gostisbehere brought in to continue to try and prop up this woeful powerplay, but with that Wahlstrom news...another winger is a necessity.

Wally being seriously injured and missing an important year sucks.

6 million in space right now and 11 at deadline. I think like everyone Tarasenko is in play, isles could move Bailey in that deal as well as part of cap consideration. They also probably need a third line winger as well and perhaps another defenseman. It’s going to be interesting next few weeks now, Horvat deal assured that.

Technically if the Islanders miss the playoffs they have to surrender their 2024 1st rounder so I’m not even sure if that can be traded…

There would need to be a condition about having the pick.

2024 1st rounder if the Islanders have their first round pick, otherwise it's a 2025 1st rounder. Something like that.

True, not sure I like the idea of Lamoriello trading 1sts like candy but if does it for a younger player with term/control like Chychrun or Meier it’s fine I guess.

Really didn’t cost that much to get Horvat 🤷‍♂️
I mean Raty + 1st is a pretty steep cost until Horvat either re-signs or we see what he returns in a trade at the deadline (if he isn’t signed by then)…

Raty was the Islanders best prospect and didn’t look too far off from full time NHL as a 20 year old.
