Interesting, I've never thought of it like that since we don't know the true extent of the injury.

But I'm sure there are some injuries that other GM's would not be willing to bet a future on.
Yeah, it really depends on the type of injury. If the likelihood is there's no lasting effects, a tanking team might view it as a positive that he can't "help" them now.

Hey guys.. was just listening to Vanek on a podcast today. Not sure if this has been known here or not. But Vanek stated he would of re-signed with Islanders if they remained on the Island. He said the move to Brooklyn was the reason he didn't want to re-sign.

Thought it was an interesting tidbit I'd share.

Looking back the Isles dodged a major bullet there but I love to hear the thought processes of players back when they were making major decisions. Thanks for sharing.

What was Vanek’s problem with Brooklyn?
He didn't really get in to it. He said he loved Long Island and would of stayed if they weren't moving to Brooklyn. Said he loved the young core of Tavares, Okposo and Bailey and it reminded him of Buffalo's young core when he came into league... fun and just loved hockey.

Since everyone and their mother *knew* he was going to Minny a year before he did, going to call BS on this one.

Re: Mayfield I completely agree. It comes down to the contract.

His position even as a #3RHD is not easily replaceable. We’re far worse without him. So why trade him? The answer is because we’re not serious Cup contenders in the next 1-2 years even with him. We need to take one step back to move 2 steps forward.

I’d be ok with a hometown discount deal but for a guy that hasn’t cashed in yet why should he do it? I’d also be ok with him being traded for a good haul. I’m less enthusiastic about a Cizikas like deal. On a final note, I’d hate signing him for 4+ years at somewhere near $5M/year.
I’m gonna break etiquette here and respond to one of my own prior posts.

The question of whether or not we should sign Mayfield is off the table with the Horvat signing. We’re all in with Mayfield even if we don’t make the playoffs this year. The term and AAV are the only unknowns.

Just read on the main board that Tyler Motte is available. With Whally out that’s interesting. How much better is he than Hudson though

4.Carolina wasn’t adding Horvat without the possibility of an extension. Depending on how roles shake out on Long Island, would the Hurricanes pivot to Pageau? Certainly feels like a Brind’Amour-esque player.”

This is interesting thought from Friedman. It was rumored in the summer that Lou was listening on a few players. I could see Pageau being one. High cap hit for a bottom 6 center. That being said I can’t see Lou trading him in the division without getting back something significant.

Could make sense to eventually move out Pageaus cap and allocate that money towards scoring help on the wing. Especially if we re-sign Horvat

I don’t like it. Sucks to trade Pageau after trading Raty. That would have been the logical replacement. Or are we going Nelson-Barzal-Horvat down the middle because now we’d have a 6 million dollar center and still no wingers.

I think Friedman is talking out of his ass. Don't think Pageau is being moved, Horvat coming in doesn't make Pageau a redundant piece, it means moving Barzal to wing. Horvat-Nelson-Pager-Cizikas is most likely the plan.

He called Horvat to Isles so I would think he knows something.

So did a few posters on this board. I can’t see Lou dealing pageau if this team is fighting for a playoff spot.

I know I’ve harped on it a couple of times but this was Friedman just a couple of months ago.

According to Gaudreau he never met with Isles

*hope I didn’t get the Friedmans mixed up

These are indeed different Friedmans, I don’t think the one you’re quoting has any connections.

I dont think Barzal is going to wing, my guess is nelson going on barzals left and lee with horvat, pageus still third

I just think Nelson and Barzal can transport the puck well and Horvat and Lee are net front presences. Be bad to split that up

Doesn’t make sense to move a PO type C to a team in your own division you have to climb over. Barzy to W makes more sense.

Maybe Lou tells Carolina to trade for Raty, then we will flip them JGP (with $2 million retained this season to make the cap work) for Raty+. I am thinking Raty and Carolina's first rounder is a fair deal. That would be some 4D chess, lol.

Horvat's playing style almost sounds a bit like a Tavares type game. So how about recreating the old magic with:

Lee - Horvat - Bailey;
Nelson - Barzal - Palmieri?

I just don't believe it. Everyone knew he wanted to sign in Minny and no surprise he signed in Minny that summer.

Think this is him just trying to save face after the whole Minnesota Wild thing ended badly.
