Must win tomorrow night before the all star break.

Win or Lose, there will be 30 games left to the end of the season.
They will have to play over 600 hockey to get themselves back into it.
Possible, but not likely.

I do not believe Lou will make a deal for the short term. If he makes a deal it will be for tomorrow and today, like a trade for Meier. IMO, he should move Mayfield... at 1.45 AAV, he should command a 1st+, but II believe Lou resigns Mayfield as he sees him as a core piece.

It shouldn't stop Lou from moving Varlamov... who I believe can help replenish some draft picks.

Parise could be moved, but it should be Zach's decision.

Bailey and Others are offseason moves... if at all.
What's up SI!

1st five out of box after break are winnable games for playoff teams

Philly there, then Sea, Van, at home, at Mtl home Ott

Then Pit Bos, Pit

I too think it's possible. Hopefully the break will serve us well. I really like how Palmieri looks. Hope he stays healthy.

I dont see the point Schmaltz is more of what we already have, adding Chychrun and we are going to have to give up what little farm we have left, it will help to keep us in not good enough for the playoffs, but too good for a top 5 pick territory.
How about if we dealt Bailey + Beau for Schmaltz? AZ might do that, tanking concerns aside.

Any opinions on Nick Schmaltz of AZ? I don't really know his game and he doesn't seem like a needle-mover (similar to guys we already have). I only mention him because I could see AZ looking to move his contract because he's owed lots more actual money than his cap hit. If they perceive him as negative value as a result, could he be a piece of a Chychrun trade and a way of moving a couple of our contracts (Bailey+)?
i think he's okay but way too injured. Same case like Palmieri where he's a good talent when healthy.

Schmaltz also has 3 more years left after this year whereas Beau and Bailey have just 1 more year. And Schmaltz' actual salary his last 3 years averages a bit over $8M per year. That's why I think AZ might do it, but would we?

@MJF While I still believe the season would have went differently had the team not ran into injuries I'm going to give it up to you. We had a good back and forth this last month but the team doesn't have the guns for another run (and are more than a Tarasenko type away).

The sad part about the injuries we suffered is we actually had good depth callups and they got hurt and missed time as well.

And I agree with you about the injuries. If we kept a regular lineup out there all season we'd be in a playoff spot, but likely only one of the Wild Cards.

In a Heartbeat!
By doing this you would move the two most turnover prone players we have, Romanov being a close 3rd and Mayfield being #4 imho....

The key to the first 8 games is they MUST take both games against Pittsburgh. And they must be regulation wins- right there that is 4 to 8point swing.

Hi! Avs fan coming in peace. I was wondering how you guys feel about your chances this season and in the future? I ask this question as I believe Nelson would be a great 2C for Colorado. What would you guys want for him, with let's say 1-1.5M retention? Thank you :)

Agreed. I like the way we match up vs them but the hole we've dug is obviously not ideal

Getting W tonight for back to back, maybe a little momentum and confidence boost would be nice!

They have an up hill battle.
If they take tonight and go 7-3 in theirs first 10 games after the break… they would have 69 points with 20 games left. They could even go 13-7 the rest of the way and land at 95 points which may not be enough. We’ll see, but it is unlikely without a hot streak somewhere.

I am one of the more positive posters here and super positive heading into this season. I think taking a step back this year to only be stronger in 23-24 is the better route

Hmm so curious about this. I read someone say Newhook + 1st. Is this something as an Avs fan you feel is close?

Nelson would be a fantastic add for Colorado, but he wouldnt come cheap. I am of the opinion the isles need a good retool over the next couple of years and should consider moving Nelson at the TDL or draft. I think the ask would be a 2023 first and Newhook

1-1.5M retained and something like a 3rd rounder for Newhook + 1st is something I would be personally okay with.

I doubt there will be any retention from Isles POV. 6m a season for a 2C is pretty sweet.

It is pretty sweet, but Avs are entering cap hell next season and every penny is super important. It could work without retention, but a small one would help the Avs a lot.

IB is a joke. Remember when he was convinced we were getting Stamkos? He tweets vague garbage that could potentially be right, and if it’s wrong he’ll make a bunch of excuses.
Is he really any more or a joke than the rest of the NHL “insiders” who had gaudreau and kadri coming to Long Island?

I trust him just as much as Friedman or Lebrun or whoever at NHL network is giving me the inside scoop. And by trust I mean look at his posts, just like all the other “insiders”, and laugh because what the summer taught me is all the do is make it up as they go along.

A 30-35 goal scorer at $6M/yr? For starters no salary retention.

Throw in Toews as well and it's a deal!!
Good ploy! Ask for Toews, settle for that young Makar fellow
