I know there are a lot of critical fans but the Isles can really use Palms back ASAP, especially with Wahlstrom out. Get him back, play him with Barzal and hope he can stay healthy and produce.

Let Fasching play with JGP and Parise, Clutter slides back in alongside Cizikas and Martin. Maybe mix up Fasching and Clutter depending on how the game is going.

I'm very curious what happens to Fasching when Palmieri and Wahlstrom are back. It's very clear that Fasching should not be sent down again. Someone's gotta take the hit.

Figure it shouldn't be a problem to send Raty and Holmstrom (that is if he plays again - that knee injury looked bad to me) back down.

I'd keep Raty up here and send Holmstrom down if that is the only option. At this point, for the 6 games he's been in, send Ross down. I think it's all moot because injuries will continue to happen and who knows how long Wally will be out. I think Raty can be a difference maker. I'd like to keep him up with the big boys

IT will have to be at center. So as long as Lambert is content with Cizikas on the wing, that will be Raty's path to staying here this season.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lane rewards Fasching by giving him the first period tomorrow with Barzal to see what happens

He’s got to be happy with how Fasching is approaching his opportunity

There’s also no way he wants to split up Parise, Pageau and Cizikas until they lose effectiveness

I think it's about time to throw in the towel on the idea that Wahlstrom is the first line winger for Barzal. We've tossed a career fourth liner and AHL tweener on a line with him and they've immediately been a breath of fresh air. He's now played about 500 5 on 5 minutes with Barzal and it really hasn't resulted in anything. He never really produced in Bridgeport either. I think that if there's a team that still puts any value in him the team should really consider dangling him out there. If he helps close the gap on a Horvat or Meier he's gotta be available.

Unfortunately, I think Whalstrom doesn’t bring the same value with other GMs as most islander fans have in him. I think he will essentially have a non descriptive career but if by chance he does have 1 GM I’d look to offload

We need a LHD. We needed 2 in the off-season. Got 1 and now are asking someone like AHO to fill in the missing mins from a big injury. Where is Lou? He has money to spend..

He doesn’t have the hockey sense. It’s not whether or not he can play with Barzal, it’s overall he doesn’t have it.

He’s overplaying his hand by being aggressive and that’s obviously not working. Absent him being cost-controlled, I agree on flipping him as part of a deal at/near the deadline.

I think Wanlstrom has a very good chance of becoming a consistent producer ala Mike Hoffman…. But not necessarily now, or with the Isles.

I’m also ok with him doing it elsewhere, if it means he is part of acquiring a solution now and for the foreseeable future.

Outside of the shot i dont see the comparison. I dont think Wahlstrom has the skaing ability or hockey IQ to be a consistent 30 goal scorer. I think best case scenario he ends up a 20-25 goal middle six winger. I would have no problem moving Wahlstrom for an upgrade.

That’s pretty much how I see Hoffman. Great shooting PP specialist, ok skating, mediocre to poor two-way game.

Sure he averaged closer to 25-30 goals in his peak… a swing of five more goals from your 20-25 projection on Wahlstrom. But even that does little to overcome the general perception of his overall game.

Maybe it’s recency bias on my part… but Hoffman never seemed more than a PP specialist in the mode of Marisz Czerkawaki. Don’t get me wrong I would’ve preferred Hoffman over many of the Isles versions of Hoffman… Eberle, Bailey etc….

But he wouldn’t have produced much better than them under Trotz either.

remove Hoffman insert Clutterbuck. He has a better chance to be a checker with a high glove off the glass wrist shot that had double digit goal scoring years

Because his hockey sense is so far below average, he's a power play specialist at best at this point.

I've seen some talk about acquiring Timo Meier from the Sharks.... Worth it? He is a career Minus player but has great hands and is Solid at 6'1" 220 lbs. Left Hand Shot coming from the RW position. An upcoming RFA at 26 years old and that wants a raise.... Thoughts?

#1 on my target list

Forget the +/-. take out 2019-20 and it's basically flat

PPG the last season plus this one and 22 PPG's in the same time period

Lefty shot, perfect to take Nelson's spot there. Nelson has not gotten comfortable playing that side on the PP.

Spot on. Meier would be a huge upgrade to the forward core. Besides improving the PP i also think his skillset would instantly mesh with Barzal.

Meier has 178 shots on goal so far this season. The Islanders leader in SOG is Nelson at 115.

It's safe to say this guy would bring an element that is missing to the Islanders, but at what cost?

The Islanders clearly value the hell out of Aatu Raty considering they shifted both Barzal and Cizikas to wing to keep Raty in the lineup and in his natural position.

If Wahlstrom is truly out long term, he is the main piece I am dangling, especially since Holmstrom has shown NHL potential at RW (and with Dufour in the pipeline who boasts a similar skillset).

Assuming an extension negotiated first:

Wahlstrom, Salo, Beau straight up as a hockey trade.
