Honest question here: Who is the best fit of a winger for Barzal not on the Isles? Not who is the best, but fit wise? The guy is at the top of assist leaders and I know he can be tough to play with, but is ubber talented.

Or, is he the best winger for that top line and have Nelson or a Horvat at the C spot?

Quick observations a quarter of the way in. Pageau has been fantastic at the dot and Parise as someone else mentioned, is the one of the best values in the league. Thanks Wild for writing him the big checks so he can take league minimum. I truly wanted Parise on the 4th line instead of MM at the start of the season.
I’m a big advocate for Nelson on Barzy’s RW . I mean .. if he can score 37 playing with scrubs ( except Lee, who’s not exactly a playmaker) what would he get playing next to 13?

Yeah … maybe our first 50
Goal scorer since .. Pierre Turgeon. you’re not going to find someone who has immediate ( if any) chemistry with Barzal anyway. As we’ve seen it can be a little tricky playing with 13.

Meier would be great of course but I’d like Horvat as our 2C and Nelson on RW1.

Thanks for the responses. Love the Meier suggestion as well and Horvat as 2c. If this team continues to win, does Lou make a move? Maybe that pushes him to make a move considering we have a goalie who is pushing for the Vezina. Tough to get inside his head. Would hate to move another 1st, but if it is the right player with term, that would be okay. Also, if we move our pick, I would like to see him recoup a second along the way as AZ has our 3rd rounder. Need more darts at the target.

While I would not suspect it I also do not this a ton of players hitting career years is crazy. They just played in a super defensive system under Trotz and are being unleashed now.

Shoulda got one game in
What would you guys need for Mayfield? Yes, I know you’d prefer to keep him, given his extremely cheap cap hit, but would an Olofsson for Mayfield swap work? Victor is signed for another year, so there’s at least a known future cost of his contract.

Or would picks work, which then can be swapped later? Or a pick and prospect?

He’s on pace for 20-25Gs. Not great, but in line careerwise, absent last season. He’s a big meh, no doubt.
That on pace stuff can be very misleading

For example. If my wife agrees to, you know, on the 1st day of the month, I'm on pace for 30-31 tallies. The reality is, I will end the month with that 1 score and MAYBE 1-2 more

Just saying.....projections aren't what we perceive often

The way the team is playing we're not trading him, unless it's part of a larger deal that nets a first line winger...plus our next D in line is a serious downgrade. Pass

Realistically they aren't trading Mayfield unless they are getting a top four guy in return. He is currently one of those guys that if they trade him they will be instantly looking for another version of him.

Good second round pick along with Pelech in round three.

Just give him 5x5 when he’s available in UFA. He deserves it, and we most likely can’t afford it if we want to upgrade up front.

Gotta stop giving over 30s more than 3 year deals. I like Mayfield a lot, but it's time to stop giving guys long term deals past a certain age. If he agrees to a 3 year deal, then sign him up, but he will get a huge offer on the open market of he decides to.

Hey, just wanted to ask, what is going on with Salo not playing for so long? Did he just play poorly and Aho took his spot?
Not really the case. Salo is waiver wire eligible whilst Aho would need waivers. Aho hasn't played too poorly, neither did Salo. No clear cut winner between the two so the waiver wire eligible guy goes down. Just purely asset management. Most of us are pretty sure Salo is going to be better than Aho eventually. I never disliked Aho, but I also never disliked Thomas Hickey. Feel like for a 6th man Aho is fine. Get Salo tons of ice time in BP and call him for injuries.

A little tidbit from the athletic about Kane

"And just as important, how does he feel when he imagines rejoining his hockey soulmate, Artemi Panarin, with the Rangers, as so many expect will happen? How does he feel when he daydreams about Mathew Barzal, his dream center — you could see hearts in Kane’s eyes every time he’s talked about Barzal’s speed and skill over the years — and joining the 15-8-0 Islanders for a playoff run? Or Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado. Or, good lord, Connor McDavid in Edmonton?"

Salo didn't play poorly. It was more of a case where Salo is still waivers exempt so the first time he was sent down it was to accomodate Cal Clutterbuck coming off of IR and needing to get him on the roster, and Sebastian Aho has seized this opportunity to make his roster spot his own.

With nearly every team in it in the west, and the teams who look to be out have nothing much to sell, here are my thoughts:

- Meier, an RFA, is going to be very expensive to acquire, and it'll be complicated.
- I don't think Patrick Kane fits. Haven't watched a lot of Toews - has he been keeping up with the play?
- Adam Henrique is a player who could fit, but he's got the extra year. He's a lefty shot, he's good on faceoffs, he's defensively responsible, he can finish around the net, he's not slow, but he's got 1 more year after this year, which is not ideal. I realize that, yeah, he's another former Devil. But it seems that he could compliment Barzal, as well as help cover Barzal's weaknesses.

I don’t think WE should be giving him that deal, Im saying someone else should (in this case, Buffalo) and he deserves it.

We should be allocating that money towards a first line winger if one becomes available.

Out of 7 seasons only 1 was great. All 7 seasons he missed a lot of games due to injury including this season.
His value is not as high as Arizona believes it is.

Friedman and Marek still link the Islanders significantly to Chychrun
Lou likes his D, but logically, where does he fit? He would be the 6th defenseman unless a d-man is going the other way, which goes against acquiring him in the first place.
