Let me know who that player would be and what would have to leave to get it done? If you are talking about mcdavid or draisaitl then maybe but that’s not happening. I see 2 or 3 needed we just don’t have a lot of high end talent
johnny gaudreau said the isles never spoke to him. Not sure high end talent is what Lou wants. More grinders, 10, 12 goal scorers not flashy, ...csnt have enough

Barzal just needs a sniper. Don’t worry about the rest of his game. It’s the rest of the teams fault they are not as good as he is.
We’re in agreement.

Barzal is not the problem. He’s a unique talent but obviously not a scorer and that’s ok.

As far as needing a sniper, that’s painfully clear. Wally won’t be that guy this year and might never be.

Palmieri is a huge disappointment to me especially in view of what we gave up to acquire him. Come this time next year we may be talking about his contract as the worst deal on the team.

Dufour is a lottery card and full of promise but projecting him as our sniper any time soon is fool’s gold.

That leads us to a trade or UFA signing. The latter never seems to happen so buckle up and hold your breath while Lou dangles next year’s first rounder and another prime asset.

Barzal should be moved to RW, he will never be good enough at faceoffs, which are so important to maintaining possession and the current-day NHL game. It will also remove him of most defensive responsibilities so he can cheat more in the defensive zone for breakaway opportunities and open up more options for him in the offensive zone. Horvat being set up by Barzal on the wing would really put us over the top IMO.

Or if Horvat comes along, put him on 2nd line and put Nelson on 1st line at wing with Matt and let him take faceoffs

Dubious if Horvat gets moved anytime soon since Canucks are in the mix for wild card as of now.

You know who is also terrible at face offs-
McDavid, Matthews, Pettersson, and Mackinnon. A lot more to playing that position than the dot.

The can afford to be because of the quality of the wingers (except for Pettersson) they have on their line.

I get your point but Barzal is the worst of the bunch on the dot and Matthews is actually ok.

Not sure Johnny has a grip on reality or tells the truth
Why do you say that? He has no reason to tell a lie. He didn't owe the isles anything. Plus his agent would be sued and fired if he didn't inform him of each team showing Interest. Knowing Lou I belive he really didn't want him

I read a lot of beat writers out of Calgary the past 2 seasons and from what I surmise, Johnny talks out of both sides of his mouth and is a little petulant about it

Probably the nature of a guy who trademarks his nickname

I would even forego the pick for a live Tragically Hip CD

Gord Downie, RIP. One of the absolute best Canadian singers in history
Props to you Mikey C, for appreciating the legend that was the Hip.. Didn't even think most 'Mericans even knew they existed. Color me impressed!

Faceoffs are an overrated stat in general. They matter for crucial/key moments, particularly in the playoffs. Thankfully we have JGP for those moments. Most of the top centers suck at face-offs.

So there are 3 days a year I love above all others. One is fantasy baseball draft day. Another is New Year's Eve where I cook a lobster tail seafood feast fit for a king.

The other is tonight where we transition the house into Christmas season. Love dusting off the old Christmas classics. Ray Conniff, Frank, Dino and Sammy. Jerry Vale, Vic Damone, Peggy Lee, etc!

From my household to everyone's, a very happy joyous holiday season. May it be filled with peace, love, laughter, good company, good food and drink, and maybe some good hockey even.

Enjoy being a part of the community out here.

Mike C and family! ❤
