Opens up cap space for the deadline too
And with Terry injured it allows BPT to get a top six guy and stay fresh for the Islanders if there is an injury.

They can also gauge him against potential call ups and another Russian is probably nice for Iskhakov.

Win-win for both clubs.

And he’s making the same salary and gets to keep fresh so it’s good for the player too

Good perspective in here, some good quotes from Lou too.

“Well, first of all, I thought that he would clear,” Lamoriello said Thursday morning. “He hasn’t played. He hasn’t played here in the states for a few years. He hasn’t played for us, other than a couple of games, so I thought he would clear, and it gives him an opportunity to get some ice time. We got three games this weekend, in Bridgeport, so, he’ll get some ice time.”

“We’re in a good position. Fortunately, we are healthy. We’ve got seven defensemen, we’ve got our two goaltenders, and we’ve got an extra forward, which is ideal,” Lamoriello said. “And it gives you the flexibility that if there is something that you’d like to do, you can do it quickly without maneuvering your roster.”

Seems like there is definitely smoke around Sosh's demotion, Bailey sitting, and no corresponding call ups from Bridgeport.

Need more than 25% retained on that Karlsson deal for sure.
I'm more of an idea guy than a detail guy.

IDK though - 25% retained would mean Karlsson at $8.625M - might not be crazy money if he plays 1st pair with Pelech? 30% would be about $8M even. Anyway, just making it all up, including the retention part. Would the team be better with Pulock/Bailey or Karlsson/Horvat [extended, of course]? This will never actually happen, but fun to toss around.

Or, how about Bailey to SJ for Karlsson (25% retained) and maybe a pick. Then Pulock to VAN for Horvat.

In what world are we trading Pulock for a UFA to be. And why would we trade for Karlsson who is made of glass.

The team is playing well there is no reason for a huge overhaul. Use the 1st round pick and add a top 6 forward and maybe find a 3rd pairing defenseman.

He’s accruing cap space to trade for Johnny G
Not sure if Johnny G is in play (he's pissed at us) but its definitely gift cap space that we pick up. Not at all that much but a buck here and there could make a difference at some point.

And it definitely benefits Sosh to get some playing time.

No player nicknames allowed unless you’ve played 10 games.

And bedsides, since everyone’s nickname is basically some variation of their last name followed by “ie”, his real nickname should be Soshie and I’m not doing that.

And you need Pulock’s permission to trade him.
You make him an offer. If he hits the net once with a slap shot in 3 games, then he can keep his no trade clause. If not, he waives it. The Hunger ‘Accuracy’ Games.

I was kidding. It was a jab at all those that said the reason the Isles didn’t get Johnny G was bc Lou didn’t have the cap space. And here you have a guy saying he never talked to the Isles as a UFA, so…

I should have specified, but that deal would be dependent upon a Horvat extension.

I saw he had a M-NTC starting in 2027 and didn't realize it's a straight NTC until then. So yeah, that's an issue.
Slip him a little something under the table to get him to agree to a deal. Is that allowed in the NHL or am I flashing back to my days on Bay Parkway?

I wouldnt trade Pulock for Horvat even if it came with an extension. Good RD are extrememly difficult to find. Top pairing RD signed to a team friend longterm contract are even more rare. If Lou wants Horvat I think he could be had for the Isles 1st and a couple of decent, but not bluechip assets. If thats not enough for the Canucks than there are plenty of other quality top 6 forwards Lou can find.

Either way, it’s clear his offseason was botched by him and his agent.

If you think he’s thin skinned, then going to PHI would have been interesting for him.

You think a re-signed Mayfield can be that 2nd pair RD?

He could be, but hes also older than Pulock and hes not as good. Id love to resign Mayfield, but I wouldnt move on from Pulock if we did. Personally i think the biggest strength of this team is the deep and talented defense, its a top 5 defense incthe league.

Mayfield does some things better than Pulock, he has more success jumping into plays and scoring some nice goals with his wrist shot.

Pulock has an elite slapshot but the slapshot is kind of dying in today’s game and he doesn’t really get wrist shots through that much.

So we’re all in agreement that when Horvat gets here he’s the #2 C and Nelson gets move to wing right?
Yes.

Apparently Vancouver and Columbus have been talking and they really need a center which leads me to believe that Lamoriello is likely also in on him (of course it won’t come out), but it’s easier to predict what Lamoriello is doing when you know what other teams sre doing.
