They can play a hybrid Nelson and barzal. #13 blowing through the neutral zone is tough for teams. Lobbing it off the boards to a streaking Nelson should click. But we're done store fans here. Nelson can take draws
i want Matty B in the center handling the puck. Nelson would be an excellent wing for him. nelson knows how to get into position to shoot, isn't bashful about letting it rip and is smart enough to make plays from the circle. Young Matthew may score more goals but will be much less effective overall if he isn't controlling the play as the point guard, if you will, in the center of the ice

I'd be willing to bet that if the team keeps this up and is a serious contender come TDL time, one of Horvat, Tarasenko, or Kane will be Islanders.
The only ‘issue’ with Horvat is that Lamoriello tends to want to re-sign his deadline acquisitions, which would mean there will be no room for Raty at center long term. Not that I care because Raty is currently nothing other than hope.

I’d rather they just win a Cup and if acquiring Horvat was a piece that would help them do that make the trade. Just pointing that out.

With that said, Lou seems to be cornering the market on Russians recently, so maybe the play here is Tarasenko who would likely provide the same impact on Barzal’s RW that Nelson has when Lambert went with the Lee-Barzal-Nelson line late in games.

Plus, Tarasenko has been wanting out for like two years now and has a NMC, so the cost maybe not bite as bad as Horvat (who will be highly coveted based off of his monster season, position, and intangibles). Kane may have his sights set on NYR or Florida, etc.

It doesn't work like that. Tarasenko's value, as a rental, is only determined by the market of teams seeking rentals, and the supply of players who fit that need. It appears to me that there are many teams, and teams that NYI compete with directly, who also would be in the market for Tarasenko.

The truth is for NYI like all other teams at the deadline is that the value of their pick completely depends on where they seem likely to draft. If they're on the bubble, I don't want to give up the pick. If it looks like they're going to be top-3 in the division or draft at 20+, that changes.

I know exactly how it works lol that is taking other teams wanting him in to consideration… I think the “winning” offer from the team that gets him will be a 1st rd pick, mid 6 player and a mid to high level prospect. I don’t see anyone giving up more if for just a rental. If Armstrong gets more than that then bless his soul. Debrincat got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd with a year left on a good contract and was a young RFA to be. Tarasenko won’t get as much unless he agrees to a sign and trade.

Gotta be something like that. Trade maybe? Interesting timing given they are on a run.
I haven't seen much from him that's made me say "Oh - we should get him in the lineup more." At least with Ross, you know what you're getting. I'm not sure what we're getting out of Soshnikov other than untimely turnovers.

I would have to think Raty is headed the other way in a Horvat deal

I only bring Holmstrom up if the plan is to play him. If the team wants to carry another guy to sit in the press box they should bring up Koivula.
maybe Lou read the board after his soft boiled egg and tapioca pudding lunch and decided to roll with your Aho at wing idea

Interesting. Not sure the reasoning behind this at the moment

maybe he's going back to the motherland to replace josh ho

That's way more credible than anything we heard over the summer.
maybe the fact that he DIDN'T talk to us is reason enough to booooooo!

Also found this pretty funny. Looks like despite all of the rumors and speculation this summer it is true that the Isles never even pursued Johnny Hockey. Funny to look back on now

A) these “insiderzzzz” are all a bunch of clueless trolls

B) if this is true, Lou should be fired

Has Holmstrom done enough to deserve a call up?

Agree 100%. He looked good playing with Barzal in the preseason. It looked like he could read where Barzy would be which is important in a prospective Barzy line mate.

I also see him working with Nelson and Lee as the master facilitator.

Maybe Bailey can now take more “rest days”.😊
2023 2nd round pick to Philly for Keiffer Bellows! :thumbu:
This could be the plan.Philly may be putting him on waivers very soon and Lou may pounce on him.
