Yup. I was just clarifying that if NYI was scouting Vancouver this week, they didn't see Boeser play. I'd love to have him on the team though.

And maybe Brock McGinn from PIT too and we can have an all Brock line... lol

I was already thinking that Lou was re-visiting the JT Miller trade talks. Since the Canucks are imploding, we might be able to get a good deal.

Probably Horvat. He fits the offensive need and also UFA to be resigned profile: JGP, Palms, etc.

If you are VAN and are going to be selling Horvat, Kane and Toews are the premium deadline UFAs and the return for VAN might be less than expected.

Just listened to 32 Thoughts and Elliotte Friedman mentioned that prior to our recent 3 game winning streak he heard that the Islanders had two reps from the organization (didn't say scouts specifically, just two people from the Islanders) taking in some Vancouver games and wondered who we possibly could've been looking at. No names were mentioned but with the JT Miller rumors last year and VAN off to a rocky start, could be something worth following.
I bet it's actually Kyle Burroughs...:sarcasm:

Don't read too much into it. Teams are scouting each other all the time. That's what scouting is for.

But IF they do... That's a center, scorer, defenseman and goaltender on top of depth filled roster build from defense out. So a pretty balanced core when you add it to the other existing d-men.

Just a sidenote... You're responding to the post below with your response above, but I don't think I wrote this:

Correct, and thank you for pointing it out.

One of the clumsy things for me to navigate with this updated site is that if you quote someone it stays in the cue even if you decide not to go ahead with the post.

I vaguely remember there was something I was going to respond to you, but someone else already answered. Apparently I must of deleted the text but left your header with @The Real JT text.

Darn shame actually… cause I’m pretty sure my original response to your actual post contained some secrets of the universe and life happiness reaffirming stuff. Oh well it’s lost to the digital netherworld! :sarcasm:

Horvat screams "Lou Player", but a C? Not sure. There's also Garland and Hoglander among others.

Maybe it is just me, but if anyone is a Lou Lams player, it seems like Bo Horvat is that type of guy. I know he is another center, but he would look great with the Isles. And push another C like JGP to wing, assuming he isn't part of the deal going the other way.

Maybe the scouts should go to St Louis. They’re also off to a rocky start. Maybe deal Tarasenko to get shake it up.

Horvat is the player taken with the pick LL gave up for Schneider, right? I can't imagine Vancouver deals Horvat *now*. They're still trying to resign him, and he'll be a very hot commodity at the deadline if they can't.

I agree that if it's about a specific player, it's probably about Garland, or perhaps Pearson (down the line if NYI want a third line option other than Parise). But probably mostly about Garland as a winger to play with Barzal. If Wahlstrom & Beauvillier keeps up their play, I don't think NYI make any moves like that in their top-6. If not, I think those explorations will continue.

If you look at JT Miller's contract, it's pretty clearly *not* what LL prefers. Barzal has no bonus money in his new deal. Anders Lee got a bonus his first year, but none otherwise. The bonuses in the 5th and 6th years of JT Miller's contract is buyout protection. I think that's a problem. (And yes, I also don't like his game.)

Buchnevich back might get things moving. They could use another defenseman. Losing Scandella and perunovich long term hurts and not a lot of cap. I believe the reason Aho stays in the lineup is due to Lambert pushing the d into the play and the perception that he can contribute. He is so bad both in the D zone and can't start a breakout that I wish they would leave him under the Arch.

Maybe Lou isn't looking for another grinder. If he was he could have just kept Kieffer Bellows:sarcasm:

The trade deadline UFA market may not be so hot with a premium on keeping 2023 1st rounders and the top 5 available UFAs: Kane, Toews, Tarasenko, O’Reilley, and Horvat.

Probably 3 of those will be available and with a ton of parity in the league, making that decision at the deadline could prove very risky. Teams will do it, of course.

Boeser, not Miller. No way we are taking on that long of a contract for Miller. Beau and a prospect. Vancouver needs to save some cap to make other moves.

Bailey - Barzal - Wahlstrom
Lee - Nelson - Boeser
Parise - JGP - Palmieri

Boeser to play the bumper on the PP
That Nelson line may be the slowest line in hockey!

Boeser is NOT that good. You are basing this on his draft pedigree and year 1. JT Miller > Boeser

How about ‘24 1st, prospect, Bailey, and Panik for Miller

Miller Barzal Wahlstrom
Lee Nelson Beau
Parise Pageau Palmieri

The Miller ship has sailed.

For all we know, they could have been scouting VAN for a potential deal if Bellows got through waivers.

It's always funny when fans are speculating who they're scouting. This is the NHL, scouts are at tons of games and they're looking at a lot of different players. Most of the time I think this is mostly just fan fiction.

I'd also argue that you need to scout the bigger names significantly less than the guys you're less familiar with.

He is in his last year before his extension kicks in. He has 5.25 AAV and there is NO NTC this season. So, if there is buyers remorse this is the time for them to do it and resign Horvat. OR Horvat is the target b/c he is most likely to be moved. Vancouver radio toggles between the two about who gets moved. Satiar Shah - Vancouver radio- wanted a Beau for Pearson trade! LOL.

Horvat could be the target, but it may require ‘23 1st not sure aisles would be willing to do that right now. And Vancouver is not ready to fold. But eyes on this as the season goes on.

Boeser is NOT the target - Isles need to get faster and Brock is injured and probably should not have started the season. There are also lingering issues with his back - that shot is mot the same. Adding Boeser would take opportunities away from Wahlstrom, who might be putting it all together.

NOW Garland could absolutely be the target.
Jim Rutherford was quoted yesterday about pecking away at this roster to improve this team. Rutherford has made 1 significant move before these trades last week and that is Mikheyev - this might be a clue about how they want to build their F group - bigger and faster. They also added Kuzmenko, who might make Garland redundant.

Garland was scratched a few games ago.

I love Garland and he can definitely be the target. Canucks have a gaping hole at D and Need cap space. I think a Bolduc and ‘23 2nd could be close considered BUT where does Garland play? And what Top 9 F is squeezed out. I don’t see Vancouver taking Bailey maybe Beau, but not sure Isles want to make a parallel move like this.

Which circles back to Miller - IF the cost is
Palmieri/Bailey + Bolduc+ ‘24 1st, then that could be something I can get behind.

I really want no part of that douche canoe. Miller is going to age like milk, and seems to be a bit of a ..volatile teammate.
Luckily his chances of coming to NYI ended once the second he signed an extension with Vancouver. Lou would never have signed off on an extension with terms like that of Miller’s.

Lou likes to negotiate his own extensions.

Yeah very true. Still would like to see him trade, or sign a legit top 6er in the summer that is closer to our cores group in age though.

Or sign Kane, that works too.
