The Bode Wilde boat has drifted by.

He should have been moved the second it wasn't going to work out with the vaccination policy.

That was the time to get it done.
Because teams were gonna line up for a player doing that? There was like <10 NHL players in a league of 700, that didn’t do it.

Wilde was not some special prospect to accommodate. In reality, you are projecting onto a franchise known failures of the player (JHS - there’s enough here already) (Bellows - PEDs) (Wilde - his vaccination) and expecting value in a situation that other teams also view it the same - it’s on the player. Schmidt was already an established NHLer when he got busted for PEDs, but has since been on two teams with depressed value of 3rd rounders for a top 4 d-man.

I've spent other posts here pointing out why I'm not merely projecting and that there were times along the way where, at least for our first rounders, it wasn't just on the player.

Why aren't you and others here not holding your favorite team's GM to higher standards?

We see GMs across the NHL making lateral moves for established NHLers and prospects alike, many with regularity.

Lou is in Year 5 here.

He hasn't done it once.

I repeat, he hasn't done it once.

In the meantime, we have seen three former first rounders become nothing for us along the way and exit without a whim.

We should all understand this as a negative.

Whether many fans are aware of this or not, one of the absolute key aspects of being a GM is evaluating when someone isn't going to be part of plans and doing so in a manner that allows you to turn him into another asset before it's too late. Anyone in the business will tell you this a critical success factor.

Again, this is Year 5 for Lou.

We've never even seen him attempt to achieve this key detail of GMing.

Perhaps the scouting department needs a new voice?

Agree with this. It's better to make a lateral, small move than just losing a commodity for nothing. When they sensed Bellows wasn't gonna live up to expectations - move him. The same with Wilde, who was considered at great pick at the time albeit with some serious issues connected, and must've had some value prior to the vaccination debacle. Even moving him another nondescript player/prospect would've been proactive. Sometimes you get lucky.

I guess we are like the Oakland Raiders in regard to the problem children. I would guess every team has their misfits .

Knowing when to cut ties is something the Islanders are not good at. If s high pick doesn't show enough with a certain time frame, he should be moved. Bellows is just the last in line so far. Bode Wilde is next.
Agreed completely. Bellows had a small amount of value I thought. Clearly I was wrong.

Wilde has minimal value at the present time or so I think. We’re at the point where it’s probably better just to keep him, hope he shows something this year and then perhaps trade him for a minor asset.

We’re only 9 games into the season so it’s always good to take a breath before making any rash judgments.

Truth be told I was pessimistic regarding the upcoming season before it started. I’m starting to come around.

If, and it’s a big if, we get next level performances for Barzal, Wahlstrom, Dobson and Sorokin and nothing else spectacular I think we can compete as a true contender.

The above is a big ask btw but so far so good.

But IF they do... That's a center, scorer, defenseman and goaltender on top of depth filled roster build from defense out. So a pretty balanced core when you add it to the other existing d-men.

Keep winning and maybe Patrick Kane will waive + sign an extension here by the deadline.

That would definitely make up for fumbling the back on Kadri…

Or even Larkin, who could than be given an 8 year deal similar to Barzal. Either one of them id be thrilled.

Patrick Kane has always been the best fit for this "Trotz" era Islanders. But yes they have to be perceived as solid contender for Kane to waive. Otherwise, it's going to be the Rangers... cliché as it may be.

I will agree here. He has threatened to make a real hockey player move, but failed to do so, instead trading his first rounder for a hockey player.

But I will say this, the jury is still out whether it will be successful. Stay tuned for an interesting season.

The last few games have been impressive. I am very pleased they finished the month 5-4. It looked like things were starting to go off the rails a bit so I'm glad they were able to fix it. Tied for the last playoff spot now. If that's where they are by Christmas, I'll be confident we'll see playoff hockey this spring.

Just listened to 32 Thoughts and Elliotte Friedman mentioned that prior to our recent 3 game winning streak he heard that the Islanders had two reps from the organization (didn't say scouts specifically, just two people from the Islanders) taking in some Vancouver games and wondered who we possibly could've been looking at. No names were mentioned but with the JT Miller rumors last year and VAN off to a rocky start, could be something worth following.

Boeser, not Miller. No way we are taking on that long of a contract for Miller. Beau and a prospect. Vancouver needs to save some cap to make other moves.

Bailey - Barzal - Wahlstrom
Lee - Nelson - Boeser
Parise - JGP - Palmieri

Boeser to play the bumper on the PP

I don't think so. Not only is that contract long, it's difficult to buy out at the end. Could have been about many other players.
