the 7 OA pick was the kicker - Ottawa definitely had someone they target with that 7th pick not that difficult.

It's a real reply - they obviously like someone better than Wahlstrom and Raty with the 7th pick.

To use your expression, read between the lines - Lou missed out.
How do you know Lou missed out rather than Chicago just wanted the 7th pick and did not think that much of Wahlstrom or Raty and/or the 13th pick?

You have zero proof that Lou ever wanted DeBrincat or spoke with the Hawks about him. So totally disingenuous to say, "read between the lines" if there never were any lines.

Player accept all the time. Wouldn’t be surprised if Kane would waive for another team. Chicago is rebuilding obviously.

Unless Kane is content with all his cups and accomplishments and doesn’t have any desire to win more with another club.

Shane Doan refused to leave Arizona despite accomplishing zero there. There's a lot more to just switching teams than just "chasing a Cup." and besides...Kane already has multiple.

Chicago isn't in the middle of nowhere like Edmonton. It's a great city and if you've had your roots there (or anywhere) for 15 years not always easy to just pick up and go.

That said unless he wants to take a lot less money, the Hawks aren't resigning him for market value a year from now so maybe now is his chance to sign and extend with a new team of his choice.

Way to poison the well - none of us have proof!

We all have to take the buzz and speculation that is out there and then READ BTW the LINES.
There ain't NO lines if there is Proof!

That's what I meant - that he probably had discussions and maybe even had an offer and missed out

I'm not convinced many new GM's want to deal with Lou and his old school ways, don't be surprised
if we hear nothing because nothing will get done that will make this team stronger. We have cap issues and no loaded prospect pool and no roster players that we can afford to move for the perception of a better return.
We are not moving Dobson, Wally & Bellows are probably not highly thought of in the league , to me
only Barzal/Lee/Beau/Nelson are the only forward chips teams might be interested in

Thats the beauty of no leaks philosophy , Lou could be doing nothing and its business as usual and nobody has a clue

Chicago had no need to trade Debrincat. He is a RFA, with a year remaining. Terrible move.

Agreed.

Its like last offseason when Lou obviously missed (or stuck out) out on upgrading the LHD and some posters here were like, "no, he didn't - where's your proof!" C'mon.

Are you being sarcastic or is this a real reply? Because I'm pretty sure the point was not that our picks were lower (and thus obviously less value), but that as a package we could've offered some other combination of assets (more/higher future picks, Wahlstrom, Raty, etc) and beaten that deal.
I'm being half serious, but seriously you're overrating Wahlstrom here and Chicago clearly valued the 7th overall pick over any prospect (Raty)/combination of prospect and picks that NYI was realistically capable of offering.

Wahlstrom is just two years younger than DeBrincat and has 25 career goals, DeBrincat could have scored 25 goals this past season with his eyes closed. He has little value to Chicago in this deal. Wahlstrom is a nice piece to dangle for aging star like Kane or Tarasenko or a team looking for cap space and a forward with upside, but not for a 24 year old two time 40 goal scorer.

Well then Lou is going to find himself unemployed after this season, I doubt ownership will accept missing the playoffs in the new building two years in a row. Its shit or get off the pot time for this team. Either Lou finds a way to make improvements, or he's gone IMO.

Nobody wants our crappy players. I don't get it.

We are damn lucky we got the arena built when we did. Not to mention signed Pelech to long term when we did.

If you look at CHI roster, coach, and current moves, then it looks very realistic that Kane is about to go.

Nittedal, Norway
Gone: Fiala and DeBrincat

Likely Never to Make it to Free-Agency: Forsberg and Gaudreau

So what is left...??? What other "difference maker" is still available.
Tarasenko possibly. But face it, the Isles simply haven't got the assets to trade for a "difference maker". Who wants older players, some of them underperforming, on long term deals? No prospects to speak of and next to no picks because our GM has traded them away for said older player signed to a long term deal, or get rid of such a player.

Nah, it's back to looking for the golden nugget in a dumpster again.

IF the Islanders are going to do anything big, Bailey, Beau and Varly all have to go within the next few hours or week at the latest.

It is looking that way...but maybe this is the offseason that several big names are moved, it sure has started out that way...

I am not convinced Lou is even looking for such a player though to be honest. Nothing he has said has indicated that but rather a "hockey trade" and "like to get one each- puck mover/defender- for the left side of the D. No real "feeling" either he is willing to part with Semyon either, which I for one think is foolish now after seeing what goalies are fetching.

The Varlamov return, for example would definitely have/can still add to the "tradable asset" pool....

Chicago is a dumpster fire, where they are seemingly trying to both contend AND rebuild, without any type of coherent, long-term plan beyond each initial move.

That said, it will be interesting to see how Debrincat does away from Chicago, Kane, etc. I think he is a good player but his numbers will come probably down and then does he want to get paid like the player he was in Chicago or under depressed stats.

You know the agent and player will be campaigning for the inflated salary.

But it is a decent gamble by Ottawa, who need to show something this season.

The Debrincat trade, their glaring roster holes, and their loot of picks over the next three years all point towards a rebuild. Seems like they are just making the moves to set the table for Kane and maybe Toews to waive.

Irfan Gafaar of the Fourth Period is at the draft and just said on his radio hit with Sportsnet 650 that the pulse among the floor is that the Isles will trade the 13OA tonight—not sure if that is new info or not.

Him with Stutzle should be fun at least. Good for Ottawa fans, they deserve a big win.

If its for Josh Anderson I'm going to eat 500mg of edibles and put myself in a coma to cope.

And Lorem Ipsum says Irfan Gafaar doesn't know how to take pulse.

I think Gaudreau hits the market and signs with either NJ or Philly with us as a very outside shot. And I think Forsberg ends up staying, especially since NSH reportedly caved on the NTC and NMC he wanted and they seem to be only a few hundred K apart.
