Miller was just a notch below the real gets because of his age, but I certainly wouldn't complain depending on the price...

He took it to a whole another level in Vancouver...

Or, Lou might have visited this site one day and saw my ramblings about getting OEL and Garland or Hoglander?

Miller is excellent at face offs, taking the job completely away from Barzal and his per 82 for the last three seasons is 30-58-88. It is a 5.25 million cap hit for his final year....

Not sure what the cost would be/is but it can't be too much as I doubt an extension is involved....

13OA and???

Like the Romanov Pickup don’t like the asset management but oh well. Good to see Lou went hard after Miller. Shows he’s trying to get a big time forward as well. Hope he can swing another move next few days and get us a forward as well via another trade or FA

So what's the roster looking like?

Lee-Barzal-Palmeri
Bailey-Nelson-Beau
Parise-JGP-Wahlstrom
Johnston-Cizikas-Martin

Pelech-Pulock
Romanov-Dobson
xxx-Mayfield

Varly/Soro

Not really a great forward group, a guy like Forsberg/Gaudreau etc would be huge. Along with adding some higher quality depth/middle 6 forwards (Nino, Palat, Copp, Marchment). I think Bura or Rakkell could look really nice next to Barzal too.

Right now Salo probably gets the final LD spot, but it sounds like that’s not set in stone. Obviously there are potential changes up front with UFAs, and who knows, maybe Lou had discussions with other GMs that he might revisit.

This is spot on. Lou gets decent players, but overpays in every deal.

Thus he's not maximizing the assets we have. That's not good GMing on it's face, but even worse when you consider how few assets we have.

For all the props our GM gets, he can often act like a child...

You got caught in trade talks with another team. Big f***ing deal. All 32 GMs do it. It's part of the job and assumed by everyone on the face of the earth. It's ok to try and keep information from leaking out, but when it does just own it. End of day this is a sport. You're not running the CIA.

I actually like it. Why does he have to answer that question exactly? How does that benefit him at all?

Romanov absolutely worth the 13th OA pick - it should also be noted they received a 4th rounder as well.

22 year old top 4 d man, who has already logged over 130 games

I don’t believe the deal fell through because something was leaked.

Could we see Bailey be moved today for more picks?
If he isn’t moved today, then it becomes more unlikely.
Hoping for the cap space.

Right now 13F, 3D, 2G - Isles have 12 m cap space. Assuming Bellows, Salo, and Greene sign for 2.5 m total, leaving 9.5 for Dobson and Romanov.

And if Forsberg and Gaudreau sign elsewhere, then is Kane target #1?

Isles need to add a forward. If they trade Bailey, they need to add two forwards. How are they supposed to add a second forward after using the freed up cap space for the first forward?

Trading Bailey may create more problems than it solves.

Just a guess, but it sounds like while there might have been discussions with Vancouver, they didn't advance too far beyond the initial stages, basic costs, etc.

Then the Isles probably pivoted to Chicago and Montreal and the search for an established defenseman, especially after the top couple defense prospects (who could arrive sooner than later, like Dobson) were off the board.

While the Isles had already moved on in trade talks, it seems like Vancouver then leaked the initial talks, presumably to try to drum up interest in Miller.

Perhaps even hoping the Rags would get involved, if they thought the Isles were sniffing around. Because that ploy worked for Panarin a couple years ago.

If that is the case, then I don't blame Lou for taking a shot at a team that was trying to leverage the Isles (limited) interest in Miller, for their own gain.
