He's an idiot?Yup.
But then why did Lou pay Bellows during the summer instead of letting him walk?

There’s are questions that people have that are 100% justifiable and will 100% never be answered lolYup.

Bellows will clear - too much $ and there are flaws in his game and skating. I can see a trade after he clears for a similar young player. The 2 teams I’d watch for are the Coyotes and the Wild. Possibly DET
Woah
Might've been to get him through waivers if he still wasn't ready so he can get more seasoning in the AHL. Maybe he was hoping to use him as a piece in a trade but no one was interested. Maybe he felt Bellows was ready and had earned it, then found out he was wrong. Probably other possibilities as well.Yup.

maybe something happened to prompt Lou to do this....not implausible for Bellows to have popped off about lack of playing time and for Lou to say "oh yeah, watch this"Might've been to get him through waivers if he still wasn't ready so he can get more seasoning in the AHL. Either way, there are two potential results of the signing and subsequent waiving. 1) He gets claimed and we lose him for nothing, which has essentially the same net effect as letting him walk. 2) He clears waivers and goes to the AHL where 1.125m of his cap hit will be buried, and hopefully he can turn it around or at least be a decent option for call up when injuries hit, which seems like sufficient value to justify a 75k cap hit.
True. Still, I think it's fair to believe that NYI learned in camp that they can trust Holmstrom's all-around game at the NHL level more than they can trust Bellows should they need a depth winger. If not, they shouldn't have felt comfortable waiving him. There’s are questions that people have that are 100% justifiable and will 100% never be answered lol
Market for him? In a trade? For what a 6th round pick. If you watched this guy on the rangers and saw the isles trade for him what would you be thinking? We would all be banging our heads. The other posters over the years have already mentioned his poor skill set, no size, no skating, ...he has no value. I suppose if Sidney crosby needs a cheap winger he could score 30 goals. But we don't have a player that makes other players better. The contract makes him relatively difficult to pick up right now, at this point, where most all teams have already "done" all their waiver work at the beginning of the season.
Also, not so many teams out there look like they're at a point where they're ready to give up on someone currently on their roster (i.e. place one on waivers in order to claim Bellows).
People can't forget that to grab someone, you've got to not only remain cap-compliant, but also place someone on waivers if you're currently at the 14-7-2 roster limit.
As for the reasoning behind it.... What I'm seeing online and especially at Twitter shows me that many, many fans just don't really understand that it doesn't need to mean anything other than that the team sees itself wanting to use other personnel at this point.
And when he got his contract this summer, many scratched their heads at the $$$ number while a few others pointed out rather quickly that he'd be hard to claim off waivers at that cost. Which is prolly why he got that money at that point. We all knew that determining what Wahlstrom and Bellows are going to be for this club was one of Lambert's biggest tasks.
We've now got a sample size of what choices they've obviously given him.
THIS ALL SAID:
I think Bellows had trade value to conclude last season. He was on the up and then went to the Worlds and played decently for the US with a few points.
He was an RFA not due much money.
I really thought there'd be a market for him.
Maybe there would have been... in the eyes of another GM.

Suggested trade.I explicitly wrote:

The situation is obviously different now.
Suggested trade.
Always check your work, people!Intentionally provides the wrong article to get more clicks?
