With Lee looking like he's lost another step at this early point int the season I wouldn't recommend going back to what worked in the past with Lee-Barzal-Beauvillier/Bailey. Time marched on.

The need for a walker has got to be soon right?

For sure. I mean, what we know now is the cost NYI would have had to pay to move Bailey. We didn't know that then.

Thinknig about future strategy, I think NYI are going to have to look to move Bailey & Palmieri (assuming one of the two would be a buy-out), in an aggressive attempt to remake the wings. They can't afford to waste Sorokin's final year under control. If they can't do that, they'll have another hole to fill, and I think it'll spiral into a break-it-down rebuild.
Moving Bailey out will be expensive. Maybe a buyout in his last year would be cheaper as I don’t want to include an asset to move him anymore.

As for Palmieri , my hope is he finds his 25 goal form and try to move him then.

I think it's way more likely Bailey puts it back together, and they can move him this offseason with one year left than Palmieri. So, that's where we disagree.

Buying out Bailey next June saves $2,333,333 with a residual hit of $1,166,667 in 2024-25

Buying out Palmieri next June makes his contract hit $1,666,667 for four years, through 2026-27

A Palmieri buyout makes more sense and Bailey can be dealt in his contract year.

I dont think anyone would take Bailey or Palmieri for free right now.

Bellows will get claimed for sure.

Another great Islanders 1st round pick. I’m not gonna get too crazy because I did want to draft him but just the development of his diet absolutely sucks. Bellows was an absolute monster when he played in the worlds breaking the USA goal scoring record.

Such a shame because he’s got the body and the talent. He’s got a ridiculous shot. He should’ve been at the very least a third line guy who can score you 20 goals and play physical.

Tinfoil hat but I really think Lou was never really going to give Bellows a chance after the PED thing. Couldn’t find a trade partner and just decided to waive him.

Possibly. I’m guessing they looked at moving him but the interest wasn’t there. He’s had chances just couldn’t take the next step. Honestly writing was on the wall when Lou mentioned the younger guys were closer then they thought. Raty, Dufour, Holmstrom are Lou’s guys. He going to want to give them opportunity.

I’m OK if he gets claimed. We need to make changes and that’s going to come from tough decisions. We need guys to get a little less comfortable and start to feel the pressure to produce. This whole everything’s fine, last year was a weird one needs to stop. It’s helping no one. The room needs to understand that things are on fire.

Can't wait for Bellows to get claimed, everyone here go nuts, he ends up back on waivers in January, Islanders claim him, he has meh stats in the AHL for the rest of the season, then the Islanders don't qualify him, Bellows becomes a UFA.

Bailey can’t be dealt at his production level without a throw-in. I’m not willing to add a sweetener to get rid of his expiring contract. Let him rot here as a healthy scratch then.

I welcome him getting claimed and reclaiming his cap space.

Bellows. Can’t. Skate.

Hadn't even though of that, now I want him to get claimed.

I'd rather call up Holmstrom from Bridgeport than keep Bellows around as a 14th forward if they need a spark up front.

Or maybe he needed the PEDs to keep up? If he gets claimed, no big deal. He’s not a NHL player in the current game. 20 years ago…maybe.

Agreed. Time for change. Let’s see what others can do. The current guys aren’t getting it done.

When a player goes on waivers does that immediately open up a spot on the roster or does the spot open when the player clears/is claimed?

Seems like a move to open a spot for Salo but I wouldnt be too surprise to even see Bolduc get a look. 5 points in 5 games, +3, 11 SOG.

I don't either. I'm talking with payment, but either a 2024 pick, or a 2023 pick that won't hurt so much.
Blackballed him by continually keeping him up on the NHL roster? He played more than half the season last year.
Yup. There aren't many players that get by with 4th line production, while not being able to rough it up, *or* penalty kill. See Bjork, Anders. NYI were that decimated last year.
