Sure, that's obvious. I am asking those that want to trade Varly, what is THEIR plan for goalie #2.

Another side note here, when Varly hits UFA, he's a 35er contract. His salary/cap hit will decrease by about 30-50% on any team. Max term he will likely see is 2 years too. So, absent this season, he will fall in line w/other backup/goalie salaries in the 2.5-3.25 range.
Go to the goalie store and get one off the rack.

I’d sign Holtby. Has familiarity with Korn and Lambert and more upside than career backups.
Not in love with the idea since he was hot garbage last year in WAS, same in VAN, but was decent in DAL. The coaching staff know him well enough to make that decision. Also, one has to look with how well he partnered with Samsonov who was chomping on his tail in WAS.

Smart move right there for both teams. No need to sign Georgie with his RFA price, get some value out of the loser of their goaltending dual. COL gets a possible #1 to be. Does Francouz get moved? Seems like Joe doesn't want to pay Kuemper - he shouldn't either.

FYI the Avs first pick in this year's draft is not until the 6th round.

Kinda funny that the Yotes or Hawks wouldn't pony up something a little better than the nothing the rangers received. Not that far removed from being competent. Was awful enough last year to not cost a lot to re-sign.

I'd guess that COL considers themselves set in goal with Francouz and Georgiev. Probably under $5M for both combined. This could allow them to keep someone like Nichushkin.

I would be shocked if Lou ever makes a player for player deal, we shall see
Can we do Barzal for Tkachuk?

Considering the amount of homegrown talent they have, their pick availability over the next 3 years is scarce. Truly, went all in and it worked. If it didn't, then yikes on fixing it.

Re: Tarasenko, he'll be 31 after next season at the end of his contract. What kind of extension is it going to take to keep him? Would he want to max out term or could you get him for 3-5 years? Nice thing about a guy like Forsberg, if he were to go UFA and you sign him for 7 years he'll be "only" 34 at the end of the contract so you should get production out of him for most if not all of the term.

This is not a good a package.

Uhhhh...For a goalie with a sub .900 save % and nearly 3 GAA (and needs a new contract) it absolutely is.

Last offseason Alex Nedeljkovic was coming off a .932 save % and 1.90 GAA season with the Hurricanes and only returned a 3rd rounder.

So this price paid by Sakic was silly at best and insane at worst. Georgiev actually makes their goalie situation worse, and they paid 3 picks to do that.

...Oh and everyone knew the rangers needed to trade Georgiev. And have I mentioned...He isn't good.

What a joke.

Two thirds is absolutely a great package for an RFA backup goalie who was barely NHL caliber the past 2 seasons.

Honestly says to me Varly could bring in at least a late first.
Ned got a 3rd rounder as a 25yr, RFA, and ROY candidate... Joe likes to toss picks around, is what it means.

I'm losing my mind over the value here.

Georgiev. Isn't. Good.

If this is what he is returning then we have to trade Varlamov...

Hmm, certainly looks tasty

Varlamov and Salo to Edmonton for a 2023 2nd, 2024 2nd, Broberg and the one year of Sekera's buyout contract if that is allowed

Varlamov to Detroit for 2 2023 2nds and Jared McIsaac

Varlamov and Salo to NJ for Graves and a 2023 2nd

A few ideas

Nedeljkovic got a 3rd because Dundon couldn't wait to dump him Cheap f*** didn't want to negotiate with him and was prepared to lowball him.

There you go. I mean the Isles need a retooling, have little assets, and Varly is walking for nothing next offseason.

Don't let this be another "Tavares situation" where a valuable asset just leaves for nothing. We have to maximize assets and Varly is pretty much the most valuable one we can trade (without going into a full rebuild).

A lot of money going back.
Plus our first

I’d prefer an ufa as well but the Blues seem like too good of a fit.
