If Bailey were actually traded, what would that look like? A lot of conversation around Wheeler. Tough to move with that contract and at 35 could be a little Laddish. However, prototypical RW, 1.5 to 2 retained on a swap with Bailey (something like that) and more in line with Pavelski than Ladd as far as what he can do in my opinion. I wouldn't mind.

Flame away.
Wheeler's slowed down too much for that contract, if WPG retained (which I doubt they are interested in doing), it might be a nice fallback option, but too early to do this type of deal in the offseason IMO.

Moving Bailey is all about clearing cap space. Look at the McDonagh trade as a guideline. Maybe we'll get a pick, or a pick and a player to buy out but no more.

Nothing wrong with taking a shot at Puljujarvi, even if it's kind of thing Garth Snow would be prone to doing. I'm not sure that giving up a pick is the only way to get him though. Isles might try to get rid of a contract or two and Edmonton need a goalie, so how about offering Varly and Martin for Edmontons 1st and Puljuarvi and a low 2024 pick or something??
I suggested a Varly to Edmonton and was informed his NTC list had the Oilers on it, but I havent been able to confirm that....

Wheeler has only a 5 team okay to trade list. Doubt the Isles are on the list.

That's fine, but the last thing the Islanders need is a 35 year old winger on the decline with two years left at 8.25M per.

If Wheeler was a UFA and was willing to sign a one year deal at 5M per or something along those lines, it would make more sense. If NYI is trading Bailey they shouldn't be getting older, slower, and more expensive.

I think a roster forward (Bellows or even Johnston?), Wilde, and a 3rd/4th would be a pretty decent/realistic return. The fact of the matter is Puljujarvi plays better in the DZ and NZ than Wahlstrom, plays with better pace than him, and has size.

Even Palmieri, while he does play with 'jam', is the same height as Eberle and has shown little to no chemistry with Barzal thus far so the need for a RW who can play alongside Barzal without being a defensive liability is there.

As much as he drives me crazy sometimes, he has value and his contract isn't bad. We'll see worse by the time the dust settles around July 13th or so. I also don't know, beyond perhaps Leddy(?) what addresses the LD hole in our second pair with regards to UFA. That hole could get filled through a trade. Beau for?

Really more of a question as to whether we are a better team with Wheeler vs Bailey and if so would you pull the trigger or what would it take to pull the trigger?

The contract is a monster and back-loaded.

Other than Mitch Marner, I really can't think of another winger who would have real chemistry with Barzal.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see them bring in Brendan Dillon from WPG (2 years left at 3.9M per), he is a defensive defenseman who can play on the second pairing in a top four role but in a perfect world would be on NYI’s bottom pair. His contract would be a nice fail safe next season if NYI can’t retain Mayfield and they want a PKer on the bottom pair.
Problem is, we don't have any real assets we can part with that anyone would need in a trade like this or any for
any other significant add. Our pool prospect is shallow , our cap will be tight and the few regulars we as
spectators want to part with have over priced salaries that no one wants , I'm saying the only option which I've mentioned a few times will require a big gamble (multi player deal) otherwise we have a few needs that will be hard to fix. There are not a lot of options that a 1 for 1 deal can happen that improves this roster

I’m not sure if Kane still has the edges to match Barzal’s unpredictability.
I think he does. Plus Kane is a highly intelligent player and has hall-of-fame level anticipation. But mostly, Kane understands how to play with purpose and I think Barzal would defer to him.

Ya, I am not sure about chemistry with him, I just want a true scorer who has a shot with him and preferably 500 minutes before pulling the plug.

Kyle Palmieri and Oliver Wahlstrom didn't even get 200 minutes with the guy, so I don't know how anyone can make a true assessment with that. I mean seriously, that isn't even 1/5th a season....

Huh? So he’s not supposed to go back to his home country he spent a majority of his life in, where he has friends and family, to appease your fanhood?

It’s a decision that effects his professional employment. Goes well beyond my fanhood.

I actually want Puljujarvi, but Bellows or Johnston, Wilde, and a 3rd/4th is an overpayment.
