I think Lou is gonna swing a deal for Krug.
Krug has a NTC so he may have his sights set on returning home to Michigan.

If NYI comes knocking, you can bet Boychuk and Chara will be saying good things about Long Island, but it may not be enough to sway him.

Proposal - I'm reading CHI really wants to shed Seth Jones' contract. So:

From CHI:
Seth Jones (3 mil/yr retained by CHI)
Alex DeBrincat (extension agreement required)

From Isles:
2022 1st
2023 2nd
Wally
Beau
Bellows
No shot CHI retains on Jones, NYI can't commit 9.5M to their side side with Dobson and Pulock here.

He'd be a nice fit in Ottawa, Chabot/Jones/Sanderson as a top three for the next decade. Ottawa is looking to deal their 7th overall and Chicago must want to get back into the top ten.

Tarasenko still wants to be traded. 1st and wally enough?
Too much, 2023 2nd or 3rd + Wahlstrom. 2nd/3rd upgrades to 2023 1st if NYI makes the conference finals next season (since you can't put in contract extension conditions anymore).

Don't forget Tarasenko is only under contract for one year, is on the wrong side of 30, and has requested a trade twice + STL needs cap space.

I wonder what the proposals for Tank were last year at this time.

2 years under contract but the big injury concern.
vs.
1 year of control with a lot less of an injury concern.

Just based on what I am currently seeing or my gut feelings, I'm going to go with the following...

Miller - NYR
Malkin - COL
Tarasenko - CAR or PIT
Krug - DET
Copp - DET
Gaudreau - NJD or STL
Jones - OTT
Forsberg - OTT
Kadri - WSH
Chara - NYI :sarcasm:

Not until Sorokin is back on US soil. Even then I don't think VGK is looking for a goalie at $5 million. Try Beauvillier and I think VGK goes for it.

Then what the hell was Stan Bowman thinking when he signed him last summer???
Very good question. New GM though.

Can teams still talk to pending UFAs in the week leading up to free agency? If so, trades might wait until after the draft when teams have a chance to feel out UFAs to see who they have a shot at signing.

Is Sorokin being stuck in Russia a real threat? If so, that definitely concerns me.

Given what's transpired in the past week or so, absolutely, it's a concern.

Why is Chicago getting rid of Jones after just signing him?

I believe they closed that.

This would indicate that if a player didn't get a fake ID from Kaprizov they should be okay, no? If they did get a fake ID....

I took it to mean that he obtained a fake military ID, not that he was distributing them. Like, someone is providing players with a way around military service or something (I'm not familiar with the intricacies of their system so I could be completely wrong).

Pretty much this...why would the team even be discussing having to give up picks/players when the FA class is like an all-star team? Gaudreau, Forsberg, etc., plus excellent depth scoring in Burakowsky and Nichushkin - all for nothing except salary. We are not in a position to be giving away picks or prospects at this point, we have about the worst farm system in the league and any additions HAS to be through FA and not trades (unless its getting rid of dead wood...)

Not sure, wording is a little clumsy, but it seems that way. Here is some more info pertaining to Sorokin...

Sorokin, Other Former CSKA Moscow Players Could Face Issues Returning to U.S.

I chatted with Nicole Shirman, a contributor to Inside the Rink, who specializes in prospects and is someone more privy to what has been going on over in Russia. She also speaks fluent Russian and has been a helpful person for many in terms of translating Russian articles.
“Sorokin ended things with CSKA on a very different note than Fedotov,” Shirman said. “And he [Sorokin] trains in their sports complex during the off-season and his [offseason] goalie coach is CSKA’s goalie coach, Sergey Naumov.”
If you remember, Sorokin’s initial contract with CSKA Moscow ended in 2016, but he signed a two-year extension with his KHL club. When his contract ended the second time, in 2018, that’s when Sorokin elected to sign with the New York Islanders.
Again, a much different scenario than terminating a contract early.

I doubt either, much less both of Forsberg and Gaudreau actually become free agents....and that puts Kadri (overpay) as the headliner and a bunch of second tier guys. It will not be an attractive market and certainly not as loaded as what we are likely to see via trade where Fiala has already been moved and DeBrincat, Tarasenko, Miller and many others have already been rumored to be on the move....

I do agree with your opinion, but for the Islanders to get a "difference maker" it is still likely going to have to be by trade (to say nothing about the joyous excitement UFA's have about coming to LI)

I feel the need to add that Shirman I RARELY see say anything negative about the Isles. I am not currently worried about Sorokin, but Shirman is not the most reliable source either.

Oh, I didn't realize that's who was commenting. You're 100% right. She's not a reliable source for something like this, though if she can read/speak Russian then that's a big plus. Isn't she just a super fan with no credentials?

I wouldn't even offer that much. We had a chance to get him for far cheaper last year and for whatever reason it didn't happen. If we're offering a first and Wahlstrom as trade chips, it should be towards players who are at least a few years younger with the possibility of a long term extension.

I'd offer what I suggested last year: Josh Bailey. St. Louis gets out of this mess, gets a cheaper, steady player to replace him at his position. Mayfield is also an option as a base. Two guys with one year left, Isles might be priced out of retaining Mayfield, a local guy who would definitely be agreeable to extending there. St. Louis fans were mentioning him a lot as a trade option.
