The Islanders were also "clearing space" to sign an already agreed to deal with Kadri (who BTW would be a nice 2C right about now but his contract is scary).
Yeah, it's scary. It's almost insane to think about it, but what would *you* think about JGP for Kadri straight up? Probably a bad idea, but tempting...

I think there's going to be an add. People are talking about Duclair. I like Bjugstad (dress Martin only when necessary). For me, adding to the PK is the top priority. NYI need bottom 6ers for next year anyway, and he's got one year left. That's not bad.

The absolute last thing this franchise needs is another 30+ guy on the decline with a horribly long deal. Kadri would have been awful for this team, then and now.

I do agree with you on the PK, though. It should be top priority and should come cheap. I'm sure there's a decent PKer from non-playoff teams to be had for a mid to late rounder who can be extended easily if he does well.

I see all this bitching and moaning about who we missed out on, I'm glad we're standing pat. Changes need to be made and they are coming, but they will happen in the offseason. We need our picks, we need to replenish the kiddie pool.

Roy has the team humming, just ride the wave and maybe we make the playoffs where this team does have the ingredients for a Cinderella run.
I don't see one player who was traded where I thought NYI should be in on it for the value they received. Yeah, I like Mittelstadt, but he'd have cost Romanov or Pulock.

The contract is AWFUL 2-3 years from now.

Right now Kadri is a legitimate difference maker who would make a bigger difference in the playoffs this year than anyone else who has or will be traded. Colorado may yet recover from losing him & win another cup, and they may not.

I'm not saying NYI should do it, just noting that it creates a tension.

You might’ve considered holding off on that post till Saturday morning.

Hope you’re right.

If we were to add someone I would like Duclair who seems to fit Roy system. Not mortgaging a first or second for him. Wally and a third rounder I would take a flyer. Team needs an overhaul in the summer as quite a few of these vets don’t fit the system Roy wants to play.

Is Bjugstad really much better than Martin at this point in his career? It seems like he struggles anywhere he goes other than Arizona.

Yes.

And, sure his stats will be lower when he's getting 11 minutes instead of 17.

I mean, this is the kind of deal that I'm good with if it costs a 4th, and not if it costs a 2nd.

Also, there's no doubt he knows Nelson, Lee, etc. from summer hockey.

I can't say I've seen much of him lately but I remember him being a disappointment in Pittsburgh a few years back.

Haven’t seen his name mentioned much here, but what about bringing Eberle back? He would likely be cheap to acquire, and we know he has chemistry with Barzal. More secondary scoring, likely helps the PP and bumps Martin to the press box.

He wasn't good enough to get it done when he was on the team, always slowing down as the competition got tougher, so I'd prefer something new.

That said, if the cost was cheap it wouldn't be the worst get in the world.

Am I the only one who is starting to find Rosner's reporting a little annoying recently. Just as an example, he has spent the past week putting out article after article about the Isles adding, the Isles buying, how the Isles can sell and then use that to buy, numerous articles about trade deadline targets and so on and so on. Now this morning he puts out an article with literally the exact same quotes from Lou and now says maybe the best plan is to stand pat. It just feels like he puts out meaningless stuff that is written just to say he wrote something and then a day later puts out another piece that contradicts what he wrote the previous day. I liked him in the beginning but I have not been impressed with his work recently.

Their goal is to get eyeballs on their articles to generate revenue, that's it. Speculation and reporting are different things and you their speculation isn't much better than anything you'd read on here.

What changes are coming? I'll bet you a dollar Lou brings back Matt Martin next year so he can play in his 1,000th NHL game as an Islander.

And if you're re-signing Martin, you may as well extend Clutterbuck too :sarcasm:

please no, please....Can't both those guys ride out into the sunset together as warriors for us. They were good for a bit, now they just need to leave.

True, but does he even do any "reporting" anymore. He does game recaps and speculation. I guess he does those occasional "one on one" pieces as he calls them where he focuses on an individual player. But there is really almost nothing of substance.

I couldn't tell you, he's not someone I pay much attention to at all. If someone posts something here I'll check it out but otherwise I don't go out of my way to read him.

So just curious who do you consider the best source for Isles news? It also used to be Gross, but I feel like half the time now he does not even attend practice or write anything on off-days anymore. The coverage of the team has just been awful.

Pinto and Chychrun c’mon - Lou

Isles can add both without surrendering Pageau and still be cap compliant

There used to be a thread here comparing Nelson, Lee, and Bjugstad when they started playing college hockey.

A number of voices there were of the opinion that Bjugstad was clearly the best of the three and would have the most productive NHL career.

That alone makes it necessary that he plays for this team.

Why are we so worried about 2029 when the cupboard is already bare? If you're going for it as Lou has shown he is, you make a Pageau for Kadri swap no questions asked. Stanley cup winner on 30 goal/70 point pace on a team with one of the worst PPs in the league? And he PKs? Gets under the other team's skin? What are we doing here?

Yup, legendary thread. It was be hilarious for them to unite under the crest.

No need for Chychrun.
