I think you answered your own question a little bit, he had a full NTC and probably got to choose his landing spot. But yeah, hard agree about adding a center. Can’t touch the top two lines right now

A good PK guy to replace Martin on the 4th line would be nice, and likely cheap.

How in the world did Florida get Tarasenko for a 3rd and 4th round picks??!! AND Ottawa retained 50%. We could have beat that offer for sure but I guess he did not want to play here. With that said, if that is the going rate, it is a buyers marker and we should definitely be adding.

I am starting to think with the way this team is humming right now the best move right now (and never thought I would be saying this given our center depth) would be to add a center. Henrique or Pinto should be the targets. If the top two lines keep rolling as they have been, imagine a third line of Engvall - Pinto/Henrique - Holmstrom. That is some serious depth for a third line.
Every tram could have beat that offer. Tarasenko has a NTC. He dictates to the Sens where he wants to go.

Tank played pretty well for the Rags and a reunion wouldn’t have been a crazy thought from a fan’s perspective especially in view of the low value assets sent back in the trade.

Makes me wonder if there wasn’t the same interest on one or both sides this go around.

When the player is in the control of their destination, it diminishes the leverage the team has in demanding a high return.

Also for example if Pinto’s agent has made it clear that he won’t re-sign in Ottawa, that would also tie Ottawa’s hands since they’ve likely communicated the destinations they would be willing to sign with long term.

I guess he didn’t want to go back to the Rags for another 1st round crash and burn.

He didn't move the needle much in his short stint with the Rags. I think they were expecting more from him.

Seems like it’s done. Rumored targets left are Duclair, Buchnevic and the Ottawa guys

Not that the Islanders would be in on them but I'm a bit surprised by Philadelphia looking to extend some of their guys instead of selling.

Tiven that Tarasenko had a full no move clause Ottawa had their hands tied and were never going to get that much in a trade.

And asshming Tarasenko told Ottawa that he’d only go to Florida, then it would be Florida that had all the bargaining power.

Point is…It’s not like the Isles, or any other team, could’ve just outbid Florida.

I read something somewhere that NSH might part ways with Yakov Trenin - not sure if that would be by letting him walk this summer as a UFA or if they'd trade him now. I've always liked him, and he would actually be a great fit in that he can fight, PK and play a little bit to boot, and he's "only" 27. He'd replace what Martin/Clutterbuck bring assuming they're not on the team next year. Russian but played in the Q. Trotz is looking at the playoffs though, so he'd probably want something back to replace him for the rest of this season. Clutter and a pick for Trenin? Then extend him?
