Wahlstrom only has value as a makeshift, but he doesn't move the needle either way. At this point it's more a case og getting rid of a player to open a roster spot than think of any form of value for him. If they can ship him out for a good PKer that's what I'd do. If they Isles are to make the playoffs and go anywhere, they need a much better PK.

I think Wahlstrom will end up on a team like the Sharks. A team that can give him plenty of ice time and his mistakes won’t cost them a playoff spot. Wahlstrom+3rd for Duclair.

I could see Whalstrom for Nils Lundqvist. Mayfield is out for a bit, Bortuzzo sucks and Lundqvist is a bust like Whally

Wahlstrom's a throw in to balance out contract slots.

I think Roy is pretty happy with Aho...they only way they acquire a defenseman is if it's someone who is legitimately better and not just another Bolduc-redux.

imo if NYI are going to add, it's a bottom-6 forward who can play C or wing, and can PK. And they can stop there. imo NYI need to have the ability to get Martin, Clutterbuck, or both out of the lineup + have an extra C if one goes down. Perhaps one or two of Clutterbuck, Fasching, or Gauthier end up on waivers at any point, but NYI will have to deal with that. Probably have to keep Martin safe just for enforcing.

You’re describing Scott Laughton, but he will cost a premium because of his cap hit, term, intangibles, and number of interested parties. Eller could probably be had for Wahlstrom + pick/prospect because of his age, however he has size (as opposed to Kerfoot) and has experience winning (as opposed to Laughton).

Pageau’s rekindled his game after being put back with Palmeiri (remember they were 2/3rds of a productive third line pre-Seattle expansion).

Will the middle six as it’s currently constructed be able to reliably score in the playoffs even with someone like Eller or Laughton? I’m skeptical…

Henrique can legitmately center a second line or play wing and is probably the best option from multiple angles.

Wahlstrom has value as an asset management play. One of those rebuilding teams can trade a pick for him, give him some good ice time, and hope to flip him for a better pick later on. And if he doesn't improve, probably trade him for close to what they paid. Low risk move.

I don't think Laughton is available. Why would they deal him? Bjugstad is another option.

I'd imagine Eller on the 4th line instead of either Clutterbuck or Martin.

Just adding here - imo it's FAR better for NYI to acquire someone with an extra year (like Kerfoot or Eller) than acquiring a more in demand UFA to be for the first rounder. I think that'd be obvious - it could easily go very wrong. Idk what the odds really are, but making the playoffs is still no better than a coin toss.

I can totally see this as well. Maybe Roy could work wonders with him. His speed would be helpful and he could have a chance to sign a deal and at least know where he will be for a few years, could help with his production. He has played for like 5-6 teams already and is relatively still young.

Kind of in a strange spot here…

-with Pittsburgh, Philly, and Washington selling we theoretically have a clear path to the third spot in the metro
- Lou does not do rentals, and making a big addition would require moving out salary. The players that could do that for us are currently the hottest players on the team
- we have like 9 NHL defensemen on the roster now and the top 5 seem pretty locked in

So who could even be available? It’s gotta be the guys that aren’t playing, Bolduc and Wahlstrom. I’ll also say I won’t be surprised if Holmstrom is a piece that gets moved for an established player. But I can just as easily see us doing nothing this season. Will be interesting to see…

Tarasenko to FLA, they are loading up.

Glad we are staying put so far

Agreed. This is definitely not the year to go all in for all the reasons that are obvious.

It’s still exciting to watch this team step up their game at the right time of year. Someone here just posted the Flyers upcoming schedule and it’s absolutely brutal. I usually don’t put too much stock in how future opponents impact a team’s success, but I’m going to make an exception regarding Philly. Assuming we can leapfrog them, there’s frankly no one behind us that looks any good. Of course, we even have the potential wildcard to fall back on if somehow, Philly hangs tough.

With that bit of positivity out-of-the-way, I’ll be absolutely sick if Lou trades our first round pick.

How in the world did Florida get Tarasenko for a 3rd and 4th round picks??!! AND Ottawa retained 50%. We could have beat that offer for sure but I guess he did not want to play here. With that said, if that is the going rate, it is a buyers marker and we should definitely be adding.

I am starting to think with the way this team is humming right now the best move right now (and never thought I would be saying this given our center depth) would be to add a center. Henrique or Pinto should be the targets. If the top two lines keep rolling as they have been, imagine a third line of Engvall - Pinto/Henrique - Holmstrom. That is some serious depth for a third line.

I think you answered your own question a little bit, he had a full NTC and probably got to choose his landing spot. But yeah, hard agree about adding a center. Can’t touch the top two lines right now
