They have been listening on him, but I don't think they have been actively trying to trade him.

We have 5 top 6 players, counting Strome, who likely won't be here long term, and only 2 guys (Chytil and Kravtsov) who project to be top 6.

Meanwhile, we have Trouba, Fox and ADA on the right side. ADA will want to get paid. Trading him for a top 4 player on the left side makes more sense. We don't need to be paying him 5 mil to be playing on the 3rd pair and PP.
That's where ADA on the left talk comes from and getting a LHD plug. I dont think we can afford giving up ADA unless we're getting a Werenski back. Even then, I love ADA and his attitude.

We have the horses coming, we just dont know how long they'll take. We can easily have another Lindgren situation next year with one of Miller, Rykov, Hajek, Robertson, Jones and/or Reunanen.

We need more balance in the roster, as in roles. We have Chytil and Kakko on the 3rd line. We have no 'checking line' or 'checking line' players.

Ideally LHD is addressed whether it be by kids, a plug or a consolidation into a long term solution.

Our 3C needs to be addressed. A Bonino type. If that means Strome has to be traded and Chytil slotted up, it may have to be done if we are looking for improvement.

Skjei got moved to pay DeAngelo. It's probably going to be close in terms of years and dollars to what Skjei had left on his deal. Kreider barely got a raise and that likely comes from the cap increase this summer.

You can't really look at it like that. The cap space we thought we had was based on Kreider not being on the team. Moving Skjei enables us to fit Kreider.

Now, whether or not we will need to clear space for ADA depends on what everyone else gets and what other moves are made.

That's possible. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

If Lundkvist shows he's ready then yea DeAngelo LD and Fox, Trouba, Lundqvist on the RD. LD still has Lindgren and likely one of Staal/Smith.........and still Hajek or Ruenanen.

Options so its all about who plays well in camp

Buch + our pick for a top5-10 pick is another possibility. If we see another 'Petterson' or guy we're enamored with.

The trading of Skjei and their statements of having younger guys pushing for spots - if we take it at face value - really says, in a directly obvious way, that they view at least one of them to be ready next year. Which one(s) they have this view of is really the question in my mind.

Miller is the obvious one, but don't be surprised to see Robertson or Reunanen get extended looks next training camp.

That's exactly how it should be viewed.

Kreider basically got a 2M raise. His 4.625 was coming off the books next season regardless of him being traded or rented. Skjei's 5.25 was here no matter what, unless he got traded.

Skjei got moved to pay DeAngelo. It's simple as that. It was not to fit Kreider into next's season's books. Traded or not, that was going to be cap space if he does not re-sign. The net change is around 1.8M added to next season with signing Kreider. Moving Skjei took 5.25 off it. DeAngelo is going to get that raise he was looking for and that 5.25, which will no longer be here at all, is going to be allocated to TDA.

This team currently, with Kreider extended and Skjei moved, has 14.3M in space for next season. If you put Skjei back in, they're at 9 and Tony would take a huge chunk of that money. It's really not that difficult to see why Skjei was moved, and it wasn't for a 2M raise for Kreider.

Can you link me? For some reason I am seeing the old charts.

The Feb 7th article is still showing the chart without Gauthier on it, for me.

Edit: N/M I found it. It's the Feb 25th article.

I would be interested in seeing her updated charts for the whole league.
Go through Dom Luszczyszyn’s articles.

That makes no sense, we got 3 LD in NHL right now and 2 ready in AHL we will not be signing or trading for any vet Dmen

You can't say that. You simply don't know what management is thinking internally re: the contention window and next season.

Staal and Smith are on their last year of their contracts next season. Everyone else on the left side is a rookie at best or Hajek.

And Lindgren is at this very moment the closest thing we have to a #1 LD. To pencil any of the kids in that spot next season is not only wishful it's likely bad for their development.

So, there very well could be a trade for a #1/#2 LD similar to the Trouba trade this offseason.

I do not think that any moves that will be made, will be done for just picks. I think that if Buch is traded, it would be for a young player.

I like the idea of Dillon as a depth defender. Of course contract will be important. 3 years would be ideal. I really think Staal is here to start next season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Smith dealt you a team with a glut of forwards who could use his versatility as cheap depth. I could see Detroit being interested if the Rangers retained. Their defense looks horrid after this season. He’d also be a piece they could use and then dump at the deadline to recoup what they paid. Similar to the Rangers with McQuaid and the Sens with Namestnikov.

I've played it out. The only position would be for a bottom6 role. I dont think Buch's value is best suited for landing a bottom6 player.

LHD? We have a plethora of them on the way. Maybe consolidate into a Byram type of prospect? Which would be the equivalent of trading Buch + pick + for a top 5 pick.

Depends doesnt it?

What if that pick is someone they feel can step in and make an impact right away? Those guys exist beyond the lottery picks this year.

Sure, naturally. I just doubt that the Rangers will be in a position to pick the top two. Beyond that, I think that only Lundell can possibly step in next year and that would be as a bottom 2 line center. And they are not trading Buch for a Lundell.

They will be looking at competing. Buchnevich is a top-6 forward who represents production. For a competing team, that is a decent amount of production to give away and only acquire futures.

Smith would need to revert to being the defenseman that was last seen in the playoffs. Then I could see a team being interested in him, albeit with some retention. Clearly he has it in him, so here's hoping that he finds it.

Or it shows confidence in your core vets and that Kakko, Chytil and Kravtsov will develop and show growth..

The point of the move is to bring balance for competing. Put our young top6 talent in the top6 and find checking line players. Buch has 1 year left until he hits RFA. He's not here for long term.

If you're talking about a Buch for Dube type move, I'm fine with it.
