Speculation: Roster Building Thread XXXVI: The End (The Apocalypse Is Now)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Kakko and Chytil can be promoted by unloading Strome and Fast (or 'demoting' him.)

I'd caution against moving Buchnevich. Hes not untouchable by any means but of the guys I'd consider to listen on, I think hes at the very bottom of my list.

Bet we sign a LD near league minimum in the summer. He'll go in and out of the lineup, and the fanbase will be split on him. In 2 years, he's either a consistent 3rd pairing guy on a good team or in Europe.

The writing is on the wall for Buch. We can trade him this offseason or next. He wont be here long-term IMO.

Even bumping Strome to RW to let Chytil center Panarin and Strome works. Finding a 3C requires more salary to be moved. It's either Strome or Buch... but eventually both, will be gone IMO Considering we have Kakko and Kravtsov, I'd assume Buch would be the first to go

It could be Strome but he's not an effective 3c. It could be Howden but he's not physically capable yet IMO. A Bonino would work perfect

I get the feeling that Miller will need more time to work on the nuances of defense. I still see the upside, but he is still fairly new at playing D at a high level.

that obviously depends on what happens with staal and smith...I don't see us adding one if those 2 are still here.

I wonder if, should the Panthers miss the playoffs, if they would sell low on a guy like Matheson. Or Dallas would move a guy like Oleksiak. Or LA with MacDermid. Colorado with Zadorov. Outside of a Trouba, if the team moves or buys out Staal, the defense as a group isn’t overly large. It may make some sense to add someone with some size and strength to handle the front of the net and impose a bit physically. I’m not talking about someone who can’t play and perhaps some of the ideas above aren’t good but I do think that’s something Gorton would be looking to add.

Edmundson and Dillon would be the options as UFA’s that stand out who play that style.

If Georgie plays well tomorrow and gets a win I have a very hard time imagining hank will start Friday. Maybe he gets the back half of the home and home at the garden Sunday afternoon. MAYBE. But Quinn May be thinking hey Georgie hasn’t played a ton he’s fresh he’s 24 years old. Let’s ride him till he shows signs of struggling.

matheson has an 8 year contract. They offered him for Brady Skjei. No way!

Just as it wasn't realistic Skjei would be moved without receiving salary back. Like I've been saying, it may cost a sweetener but it could get done. They are not owed much after July 1st.

What is your definition of a sweetener? Then show me the example of that much salary being moved with a sweetener. Skjei is not the same thing.

Rangers don't have money issues after next year. Plenty of money to have Buch play 3rd line Wing for around $4 mil per. I'm not a huge fan of Buch, but a 3rd line of competing years is a solid roll for him. Even if you need to pay him a bit more. I doubt GMJG will put us in cap hell. He seems to know what he's doing.
