If we deal with the Canes, they better pay up like crazy. Would be pretty close to them basically buying a guaranteed WC spot.

The cap recapture for long-term deals was for contracts under the old CBA due to the limitless structure. Under the new CBA, the max salary in a single year cannot be more than twice the lowest salary in a different year.

Lundqvist's 7 year deal, signed in 2013, and active since 2014, was in accordance with the new CBA and therefore there should beno cap recapture penalty. If there is, it could be similar to his buy out penalty for 2020-21. I don't know how the NHL would calculate that. If I had to guess what that potential penalty would look like, and how it worked for Kovalchuk, it would come down to a 3m cap penalty in 2020-21. Basically the cap benefit the Rangers had throughout the contract.

The new structure in the CBA has already addressed the "loophole" so who knows.

Another guy expecting/due a payday though.
He certainly isnt getting it based on this years production.

RFA status too. 24.

If they intend to move Fast because they dont think they can afford the raise he wants OR want to pay him that raise given his age, Labanc is a great replacement option moving forward. Younger. Can move up and down the lineup as well and has speed to his game. Labanc signed that $1 million contract for this year and it hasnt worked out for him. Rangers could offer a bridge or bump in pay that would be probably similar to what Fast will ask for. But youre getting a better overall player imo (no knock on Fast love him) with more potential at this juncture.

The team interested in getting Kreider might not want him as a rental only and then you may have Kreider balking at contract offers from them which might also nullify trades . It is not easy all around and maybe it won't get done ! Outside of Canada do we know who else is on his NT list ? Also....changing the subject...Sabres used the big Finn Ristosaltinen[spelling?] on the PP today and it worked as Penguins could not budge him . Rangers should look at employing Trouba that way instead of on the second PP unit where he has trouble hitting the boards with his shot . A big body with a temper....it might make it interesting on a few PP's . Definitely worth experimenting a few times and get some of the 56,000,000 back . He has a big body and would be a great screen when or if Kreider gets moved out .

Put up or shut up kreider. Take the rangers offer or pack your shit. ;)

The more I think about it, the more I think he's going to re-sign. It's entirely in his hands. I know it's a lot of money to give up, but it can't be easy to walk away from his teammates. If the team were out of it, that would be one thing, but this is a team that is on the cusp of getting into a playoff spot, and Kreider has been a big part of that.

His relationship with these guys cannot be stressed enough. His friendship with Mika.

You have to give Kreider a ton of credit...he hasnt distanced himself from the media. He is there after every game answering questions about this team and what they need to continue to do moving forward. He says all the right things.

If he does re-sign, give him the C

You need four great lines to compete for a Cup. Not two lines carried by two or three elite players.
are you going to keep moving the goal posts? I dont know what you want. We only had 1 dynamic line but when said its 2, now we need 4 lines.

We need some help in the bottom6. It's not some inconceivable thing that we cant overcome. The hardest part is out of the way.

3 good-great lines is enough to win. Your 4th line obviously can't be Haley or Glass.

Come on, Kreider. Do the right thing and sign a 5x5 contract.

This has been a very anti-climactic deadline for Rangers fans so far.

With all the optimism in this thread for the team and where it is I hope that it also carries over to recognize the overall very good job Quinn has done this year and that maybe everyone bickering and those wanting him fired at the start of the year needed to just take a deep breath and let a coach that was hired to develop do just what he was hired for.

A LOT of our players have taken positive steps the past two years.

Is that because of him or despite him?

If you listen to what DQ is talking about and then looking at how the team plays right now, it seems like they have just stopped listening to his crying lol.

If you scroll up, those were the goalposts. That was the discussion you entered. Whether or not we have the forward depth to compete for a Cup.
