agree, it’s supposed to be a rebuild rather than forever building.
At some point you have to pivot and transition.

I will be honest...I am terrified of being the Islanders, Oilers, Sabres, Coyotes that get stuck in the middle of a prolonged 10+ year episode of mediocrity. Life just passing by.

We need bodies. We cant just keep collecting draft picks and prospects that will be 3 years away.
While I agree, don't forget that the draft picks and prospects are also currency. They aren't necessarily going to be players who will play for us, but can be used to acquire other players as well. When the Rangers wanted to trade for Heatley years back, the rumor was that they demanded McDonaugh in the Gomez deal so that they could flip him to Ottawa as part of that trade. Having a multitude of assets to deal from allows us to be at the head of the pack in any trade.

I think they are aware. they've traded for Fox, Lemieux, Howden, Hajek, Lindgren, over the past two deadlines who have all played in the NHL and we may be able to add Rykov to that at some point this season.

Kakko, Chytil, even Lias played in the NHL (depending on if a cup of coffee or more games is a requirement to count) within 1 to 2 seasons after being drafted.
Just because some of those prospects played in the NHL doesn’t mean they should have.

They need kids who are in the NHL or ones that are being blocked. 20-24 year old range.

You can use those assets to get ‘bodies’, like Gorton did for Fox and Trouba.

It's easy getting bodies when those bodies only wanted to play for the Rangers though. I'm good with whoever they trade, I just don't want to see them regress next season.

might be one more trading deadline of collecting more picks and few players yet IMO we’re either at the doorstep or walking into the room of it’s time to build this team into a winner. We don’t want to wander long term and hope. The patience clock is about to start making noise.

i mean if the return from colo is jost/kaut im very meh on that and would look elsewhere.

as for the debate between kreider/strome and Tony, makes sense that kreider is moved. shortest timeline career wise. avoiding that dreaded 2nd contract which ends at 35 yrs old. hes the best return right now and doesnt fit the narrative i.e. khayes and moving on from him.

not sure on stromer. i would keep him and his ability to move up and down the lineup. you cannot deny his numbers this season. almost a PPG guy. who knows if the suits agree but i keep him around.

tony deserves a 2 yr bridge minimum and probably a 6/5 deal if we are looking long term.

take the CK money and spend it elsewhere. get back a younger forward with size to round out the top 9 and a prospect.

What do people think prospects like Lemieux, Howden, Hajek, Lindgren were?

They were prospects who where being or going to be blocked, they were sold by teams who were high in the standing and who were making the playoffs, hence why they were being or going to be blocked.

The same could probably be said about several of the players/prospects people are mentioning, Julien Gauthier is 22 and Kuokkanen/Jost are 21.

Are they grade A perfect, of course not, those type are unlikely to be available at the trade deadlines.

Where/when do the Fox and Trouba types come from, the summer, Same as Zbad.

I understand them having a passing interest in Skjei to anchor their second pair, but Carolina isn't exactly bare on defense.

Jake Bean is almost a PPG player in the AHL. Fluery isn't a bad player at all. And it's Gardiner's first year, it feels really sudden to hit the eject button already

Well I haven't been keeping tabs on them too much, but I do know they've been rumored to be interested in Brodin and Dillon. So they're obviously not satisfied with their LHD for whatever reason and are looking for upgrades. I know Fleury hasn't quite taken the steps forward they were hoping for and Gardiner, at least last time I checked, wasn't quite fitting in with the system that well. Plus having 3/4 of your top-4 locked up for 4 more years helps you manage the cap for when guys like Hamilton and Svechnikov need big money deals in the next two years.

Carolina has no qualms about making big moves though. They're the one team I could see pulling out the stops at the deadline for a major deal. Fantastic prospect pool. Multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks. Most of their key guys are young and under great contracts. Bit of a perfect storm.

I think Kreider is getting traded, for sure. But this was the actual meat of the article that Rangerboy "paraphrased"

Would love to trade Georgiev to San Jose just so he doesn't come back to bite us. Trading him in the division to Carolina would be a nightmare, just in case.

Not sure why Carolina would be interesting in Skjei thought.

The Rangers didn’t get those ‘bodies ‘ for free. They still had to give up assets to get them.

For sure, it just that two very good, very available players, wanted to play here. In Fox's case, it was the only place he wanted to play. Makes a trade a little easier when you don't have to outbid anyone.

I’m more concerned about the return in Georgiev’s case than his destination. San Jose is a very unappealing trade part, IMO.

I'd move heaven and earth to get Necas here but Carolina would never trade him. Get Necas and Zadina and you have a new Czech passe'.

You're probably arguing semantics. Forcing a shot on goal when there's a better play or pass to be made isn't positive, and no one would argue that. But ability to get the puck on net from the point through traffic, is. Trouba has proven he's pretty good at that.He does lead all NYR defenseman in 5on5 shots.
It's pretty evident that his shot selection leads to less shots from high danger areas overall:
troubja94

deangan95

foxxxad98

And that is disregarding the effects of a missed/blocked point shot that likely leads to a change of possession with a relatively high likelihood of an odd-man rush against.

Labanc or Kapanen in a deal for Georgiev.

Could we add to Georgiev to expand SJ deal to include Meier instead? 2nd round pick and prospect? Add Skjei to the mix and come away with both Labanc and Meier?

is it really slot selection when the majority of trouba's shots come from where he is on the ice the majority of the pp/offensive zone time?

I'd probably disagree with that. Fox and DeAngelo (esp when paired together) minutes are more offensive. When those 2 are out there, Rangers are gonna be pushing for offense more and I think that explains why Rangers take more shots from dangerous locations as opposed to Trouba takes bad shots"

we have 1 cup in 79 years. Of which I’ve watched 44 of them. We’ve gone to the finals 3 times since 1975. Id say that’s pretty mediocre. Hopefully we put the right players together and long term success comes.

It's a good thing players want to play for the Rangers, it one of their biggest advantages league wide. They should maybe keep their options, cap space and assets flexible so if someone else good decides he wants to play for them they can trade for him?

Difficult to do if they do not have the picks, prospects, cap space, to make such deals.
