Thanks for the above. Any info on the names being mentioned?

A pool of potential names in Boston - Frederic, Lauko, Hall, Forsbacka-Karlsson. I know posters have floated a name like Heinen out there. I haven't heard him come up in conversation, but I think it's a logic thought that makes sense to me.

Colorado - Jost, Kaut.

you can boil it down to whatever you feel like, thats your take and its a free country. Ray Bourque was 6'0". Chris Chelios was 6'1". Brian Leetch was 6'1". Ulf Samuelsson was 6'1". Vladimir Konstantinov was 5'11". Darius Kasparaitis was 5'11". This is literally the dumbest argument I have ever been in on here. Being less than 6'2" is not a disability and it prevents no one from being a premier, hall-of-fame defensive defenseman.

Well, I'm surprised you didn't put Bobby Orr's name there too. : )

Didn't realize you have HOF expectations for Foxy. Good for you!

This team is a seller. My issue though is that at some point you have to commit to keep some guys. Kreider I feel is outside our age group but Strome and DeAngelo fit if their contract asks are reasonable. Fast, unless he is looking to get paid heavily should stay as he would likely only get a 3rd rounder in a trade. It sounds like Lundqvist isnt going anywhere so it would be best for us and Georgiev to move him. So in the end we could end up trading all those guys and if we do we are gonna have to wait another year for playoffs.

I think we all like DeAngelo yet recognize the plethora of defensemen on his side of the ice. Still hope we find a way of keeping him.

Strome, I think we are torn. Steve Serby had an interview with Strome and the answer to a question kinda annoyed me. Tells me Strome will never get it and will never be what we want him to be.

Q: Is it true you have a good wrist shot?
A: When I use it (smile). They get mad I don’t shoot enough.
Q: Why don’t you shoot enough?
A: Honestly, if you would ask my parents this, ever since I was young, I’ve passed way too much. I remember as like a 6- or 7-year-old, my coach is getting mad at me for not shooting. I always would try to get the other guys a goal. Obviously, it’s not like that anymore, but I think as a young kid I was always kinda the best player and stuff like that and I kinda wanted to show that I could do more than score and could set up other guys, so I think that’s probably followed me a little bit in my career.

Not sure about Kaut. His heart condition still worries me a bit. I don't know how relevant that still is though. Jost, I have no interest in personally

When it comes to Boston, Lauko and JFK are the ones I'd target.

What you want him to be might be unrealistic maybe? We got him for Ryan Spooner, if he puts up 50 points a year he is more than I was expecting. Not sure why everyone is down on him, he has been a good player for us since arriving from Edmonton, and last year it was " oh he cant keep up that pace", and now its "hes playing with panarin". I get the feeling nothing he does will be enough. If he is still here when this is complete and playing on the 3rd line we will have a nice looking top 9.

I mean its very possibly they have made up their minds, but don't want to say so for a variety of reasons. Including not signaling to buyers that we're definitely selling all these guys.

There's a ton of negotiating through the media that obviously goes on. Gamesmanship. It's not worth getting worked up over because a source told the Athletic that they wanna think it through before selling.

My guess is Quinn wants Strome, Kreider and DeAngelo to stay....logic says atleast one will likely move.

The quote I posted along with the link is why I am down on him. Everybody since he was 7 years old have told him to shoot more. Hello? Everybody wants him to score more yet he doesn’t shoot enough.
2011 NHL Entry Draft Picks at hockeydb.com

I think he’s been one of the better Rangers and was coming along last year. IMO, he doesn’t do enough to warrant a size able contract while the Rangers really don’t have a replacement for him

A few general thoughts about some of the ongoing conversations in this thread:

1. Being a smaller defenseman isn't a death sentence in today's NHL. But having a RD comprised of ADA, Fox, Lundkvist and/or Keane would present a lot of struggles. Balance will be the key.

2. Regarding listed heights/weights of players, it's a very political subject. Having worked on media guides in my past life, you're dealing with perceived size standards for positions, agents wanting their clients to be listed different, teams wanting guys' vitals changed, etc. That's why Brian Leetch went from 5'11, 185 to 6'1, 200 magically in his late 20s. I think during the height of the LOD in Philadelphia, Mark Messier suddenly became 6'2. It still happens today. Teams are leery about some weights being listed too low or too high, and 6'0 is still a threshold in the sport.

3. So here's the latest I have on the trade fronts:
  • San Jose stepping up talks about Georgiev. Toronto still very interested.
  • Boston and Rangers actively swapping names re: Kreider. Colorado still very interested.
  • Dallas, Nashville and St. Louis among the teams kicking the tires on Fast.
  • Calgary has asked about Andersson a few times.
  • Nothing doing with Edmonton at the moment.
  • Carolina has asked about a few guys, including Georgiev and Skjei.
Edge, my point in listing Trouba’s size (which I guessed) falls in line with your first point. BALANCE. I have no doubt Fox is capable of playing Defense. He has shown he can. He has shown he can be solid in his own end. That does not mean he offers the same attributes defensively that Trouba does. And you need different types of defensemen. I know the next thing out of the camp of 2-3 people that would love to trade Trouba is to minimize the important of what Trouba does. Eating those tough minutes. Physical minutes. Playing with that nasty edge. The size he brings to the table while being an above average skater. Allowing for DeAngelo and Fox to not have to play that style of game and to flourish offensively because they dont have to worry about that side of the game.

Its ridiculous. Its shortsighted. Its naive.

But hey I am here to keep all 3 for the foreseeable future until I know Lundkvist, Keane, etc are absolutely ready.

Yeah, I'm in the camp that doesn't have a desire to start messing with what we have on RD right now --- I think it's a good mix that still has quite a bit of room for growth.

If they fall off, we can make a move. If they don't fall off, but we need to go a different direction for whatever reason, we'll have some amazing bargaining chips.

I think Boston is the frontrunner, and I can see the possibility of a three piece return (a pick and two prospects, or a pick, a player, and a prospect).

Where would you put the odds of us getting a first in that deal? Do you see us pushing for two quality pieces and a 2nd?

Something I mentioned last year during the draft was that our forward depth wasnt very good, we seem to have more defensemen than we need and not enough forwards to backfill any trades we make this year.

I think we need to get some NHL bodies back, which is what makes this difficult. Teams don't want to give up roster players. Maybe we get guys who are on the cusp and promote them, or guys who are in the NHL, but getting less minutes due to the players ahead of them.

We do need to start keeping players at some point, but I think you do that more when you are in the middle of your window. Panarin and Trouba are obviously here long term. Zib will more than likely be re-signed when his contract is up, unless the rebuild has failed, Zib falls off a cliff, or we have someone who can replace him.

I'd be somewhat surprised if any deal doesn't include a first. I'd put the odds of the Rangers actually using a pick to draft a player at 50/50.

Personally, in my mind, I consider the first as a bit of a given in any Kreider deal. The the question becomes who is the prospect/player attached to the deal.

I've long believed you're looking at a return similar to Hayes. Some reports would have you believe it's closer to Nash. In both scenarios you've got a first. It's the plus component that's TBD.

I wouldn't be upset with Boston's 1st, JFK and Curtis Hall

Hall is someone I think needs to cook in college but I could see a similar arc like Morgan Barron is having with him

Kaut would be awesome. I would be happy with Jost too but I think maybe others may have high expectations for him.

Lauko I can understand, but what's the attraction to JFK? Why is he playing in the SHL?

Would rather keep Kreider and move Strome.

Andersson for Bennett. Probably have to attach a draft pick.

Georgiev to Toronto for Kapanen+

Strome traded after the season.

Rangers extend Fast who can be exposed during expansion draft.

Kreider re-signed.

Skjei sticks for now.
Buchnevich sticks for now.
-I think the two above can be packaged for a top 15 1st round pick or young up and coming LD in the offseason.

But for now:

Kreider-Zib-Kapanen
Bennett-Strome-Panarin
Kakko-Chytil-Buch
Lemieux-Howden-Fast
Smith

Yes, I am aware the trade Kreider crowd will hate this.

Bennett still only 23, Kapanen 24. Thats the right age range to be grabbing those guys. Bennett brings a nice mix of physicality
