Because they’re somehow in a win-now mode, believe it or not. They fired a consensus really good coach because they expect to have a big playoff run. I sense they’re willing to move anyone.
They can be in win-now mode and not trade Glass. I don’t see it. Don’t think it’s a realistic get, but if the Rangers can pull it off I won’t be complaining

DeAngelo's issues are behind him. Leave it in the past, he's a great teammate, and a personailty that stands out. I always hear NYR fans complaining we don't have enough personality, and now we have it so you want to trade him because of issues from (for the most part) half a decade ago? We finally have an elite offensive defenseman.

Also, I see people used Buch's benching as an excuse for poor performance. I'm a huge DQ critic and skeptic, but Buch isn't Kakko. He's not getting used to a new continent, not in his first year. Maybe the benching could have been harsh or a bit too quick, but a lot of it is in how the player reacts. Buch is 24, he's been through a benching before from both AV and DQ. He should be able to react in a good way to a benching, see DeAngelo, Tony from last season. Look where he's at now.

Maybe this is correct but if we move ADA in order to keep Trouba it will be a mistake.

Those players aren't mutually exclusive. There's no reason we can't keep both. If ADA does get traded, it won't have anything to do with Trouba.

I completely disagree that DQ ruined Buch. People forget the player Buch was before DQ. Quinn helped make Buch the player he is, he’s simply having awful luck this season and its getting to his head. DQ developed Buch very well but right now when Buch sulks every time he hits a post he needs to bench him in order to try and get that mental weakness out of him. DQ is seriously not as bad of a coach as people make him out to be. His lineup choices are as bad as any other coach in the league but i mean come on some of the critiques are just ridiculous.

This. Buch is much more engaged, both along the boards and on the backcheck. That's all DQ's doing. Buch is still getting plenty of offensive chances, he just isn't converting on them. That's on Buch and he'll have to figure it out. Unlike some fans, I'm not going to give him away so he can figure it out somewhere else. He's doing the right things and sooner or later, the results will come.

Quinn benched a lot of people. There was a reason for it and they responded. Are you really blaming Buch's funk on a benching? Is he so weak minded that he cannot handle it?

Quinn benched a lot of people and I have not once called him out for it before. But this time I did for a reason. Buch was obviously taking his hustle to another level and was working his butt off, even if he maybe had tackled of a little bit, and when DQ singled him out and benched him despite many others being really inconsistent and struggling (especially Kreider and Howden) it scared me.

I just want to see accountability.

i believe the right side of this defense will be trouba ADA and fox for the next 5 years.

could tony play the left side ? sure. he can and has and may well be the guy who moves over.

to me, its guys like nils lundkvist and any one of our young lefties that could be in play. prospects have value.

you DO NOT move a 60 point right D for chump change because hes due to get paid and then assume an unproven kid can step in and fill that role and produce anything close to 60 points.

unless theres a dramatic overpayment, tony isnt going anywhere. guys like kreider, georgiev, buchnevich, fast, stromer and skjei should be shopped.

r

his behavior has been drama free. his production is top 10 in the league. his reputation in the locker room has been well documented- kids well liked. quinn speaks highly of him both on and off the ice.

production.
youth
talent
good attitude and behavior
great teammate
increased trust from quinn.

so lets move him.....

hog wash.

I want ADA resigned and like him a lot. Let’s be sure though.

For all the good, let’s not forget Quinn speaking about ADA and him being in a “bad place” earlier this year. Earlier this year means within 90 days of today. One may have nothing to do with the other (and again, I like ADA a lot) but Odell Beckham was temporarily on really great behavior for a short time with his contract on the line. How quickly things changed once the contract was signed. We have less than 90 days of ADA good behavior.

I like the guy and feel his production is needed but we aren’t too far removed from whatever “bad place” he was in with Quinn.

I just hope the Rangers make the right decision. Sign him if he’s matured b/c he’s really talented or dump him at a high b/c the good behavior is an act.

Gorton didn't "trust" JT Miller. He traded him to Tampa for nothing, we got what a 4th round pick for Namestnikov. Tampa gives JT Miller a contract that is laughed at by Gorton and co, and then Tampa trades him for a 1st +, that even could be a lottery pick in 21' if Vancouver ends up missing the POs two years in a row.

Gorton's failed contract management is getting costly. He thinks he is the smartest in the universe by giving bridge deals to kids and then deals them for cents on the dollar, while giving top dollars to Smith, Shatty and co.

Its just not good enough.

When discussing defenseman, there is a small matter called the expansion draft that has to be worked into the conversation. Unlike goaltenders, the Rangers could have a protection problem on the back end.
What's bringing you concern?

It's weird that Quinn would try and ruin Buch by playing him with Kreider and Zibs and putting him on PP2. Not every player is the same, they all respond to different treatment. Maybe Quinn thinks Buch has more to give?

I think Tony D is a great Ranger and I want to keep him. But if a team like Vegas offers a 1st and a player like Glass, it would be really hard to turn that down.

You dont trade an elite offensive right handed defenseman over crap that happened when he was playing juniors. Wish people would move on from that narrative already. You can also bet your last dollar both tampa and the yotes are kicking themselves in the ass right now for moving him and not being patient.
And you do not trade him because of what somebody, somewhere might someday say.

How does this come up anymore? Miller was not traded by himself. It was part of a package. Without him, the trade does not get done. You cannot pick segments of trades apart and treat them as stand alone.

I think you would be lucky to get Glass while Glass and a #1 is a bit unrealistic IMO.

did Hartford sing a G to a PTO? My Leaf buddy says there board assumes its a Georgiev deal coming lol

Someone posted about $18-20 will be locked up in RHD in 5 years if Trouba-Fox-DeAngleo are still around. Here is a proposition.

In 5 years K’Andre will be here. In 5 years Lundkvist will be here. How about trading Skjei, moving Tony to left, and inserting prospects on ELC’s or inexpensive bridges while we are contending. If you think Miller is potentially a top pairing guy and will be ready, this is easy:

Miller-Trouba
DeAngelo-Fox
Lindgren/Hajek/Rykov/Reunanen/Robertson-Lundkvist

If you are of the assumption or are skeptical that Miller won’t be ready for that role then,

Veteran FA signing-Trouba
DeAngelo-Fox
Miller-Lundkvist

Things taken from this:

The Rangers have a plethora of cheap, you g, options to fill out bottom pair even with 18-20 mill tied up in three fantastic RHD.

That same 18-20 million will not hamper our ability to contend. Trading Skjei is an option I would immediately exercise to keep Tony in the fold.

There are solutions. Way down the line obvious and so much could happen between now and then, but Tony DeAngelo signing long term is the least of our worries towards cap crunches and contending

Also: holy sh*t we have a lot of defense prospects
