I’m not advocating a DeAngelo move right now but a) the team that makes the most sense is Vegas, b) management there has a brass set and c) they have a certain prized prospect named Cody Glass who could headline a deal.

I’d much prefer a Connor or Nylander but I’d listen on Glass.
B doesnt exactly help our case though does it.

Was snoopin around the Bruins boards. Saw a proposal of Heinen Zboril and a 1st. I think thats fairly realistic though personally id rather another pick than Zboril.

It’s so typical this season that an amazing breakout by a young player becomes a negative event...

Buch has 2 goals in 19 games after he was singled out by DQ and I made this post:

Good that we have a “development” coach.

It back fired. Anyone surprised?

At some point all of the hard work Buch is doing has to start resulting in points. The kid gets a top 6 spot and p.p time every game and doesnt produce enough with it for long stretches of games. But hey,its easier to blame the coach when he finally gets demoted during a game

It's like the "We are getting Sergachev for McDonagh" thing all over again

Hehe, and I am definitely not sure if we and/or Colorado values Newhook as high as we (especially me) does. So its also a bit 'its like Sergachev all over again, but in this case Sergachev might not even be as good as Sergachev'.

That is the only reason why I mention Newhook from time to time, because I hope that Colorado might not quite see him as a real blue-chipper. And its not like he have destroyed the NCAA, 17 in 20 is good for a rookie I recon, but its not 30 in 20.

Buch was benched on December 5. Before that he had 19 pts in 26 games. I thought that benching was really harsh, and I immediately wondered if it would pay off to single out Buch like DQ did and feared that it would back-fire.

After the benching, he has 7 pts in 22 games. He is playing without confidence. Scared of over-passing and not sure what to do instead. It is what it is. I am not saying that we have prof of anything or that the outcome surely had been different, but I don't like DQs attack on Buch at the time. And he really demonstratively took out Buch from the rotation to put Smith in his place, that is not 'someone else is performing better and you are having a bad night', its 'your play is really unacceptable'.

And personally, I don't value "all situations" players as much as others. I've always felt that teams should be acquiring 4th liners or bottom pairing defenceman who specialize on the penalty kill rather than using your top players.

You need at least 4 of your 6 defensemen every night for penalty killing duty. You can't leave guys out for 2 minutes at a time to kill them off or your PK is going to be a disaster. Players wear down. Keep in mind the Rangers are the most penalized team in the league. Toronto is trying this all offense shit.....how's that working?----with all the skill they have they'll never win a Cup unless they build a very good defense.

On the question of DeAngelo as a defender on the penalty kill--taking the Capitals as an example how's he going to do moving Tom Wilson away from the front of the net with his 180 lbs.? Is he going to drop in front of an Ovechkin blast from the circles 3/4 times a game? Do you want him doing those things? One of the things that happens on the PK for the defending team is once the other team has control of the puck in the offensive end your players get crowded into tighter spaces and have less time to react. Having size and strength is an asset then. It helps the team keep structure particularly in the areas around the net.

Buch has gotten to the age where he has to overcome and ride out this kind of shit though. He's not really so much a kid anymore--he's more of a vet and when things aren't going your way you need to dig down more. He was very good at the tail end of last season and for a good portion of the first half of this season but he's kind of regressed.

It's worse in a sense that McD had more value than Kreider does currently in a trade. Alas these proposals will continue to happen year in and year out.

It will be interesting to see fans reactions on here down the line when the Rangers will be buyers as they move to contention phase.

DQs handling of Buch is a gigantic failure. I feared this exactly when DQ attacked him a couple of months ago and posted about it, something like DQ better know what he is doing here with the attack.

Buch had a really strong start that abruptly was cut short by DQs attack. What good has it done?

I hope this guy does more good than bad,

his most common linemates are Zibanejad and Kreider then Chytil then Panarin. Not seeing the problem. The problem was never Buch but people’s wildly absurd expectations for him. He is what he is. A good secondary scoring option.

I guess I don't feel particularly rushed to move a RD.

If they're as good as they're looking to be, we're not going to see their values plummet. We can move them if there's a clear deal that makes sense, and/or if someone like Lundkvist makes a deal apparent (not unlike what Shesterkin is doing right now). If the prices get too expensive, that's fine as well. Because a high price means a high performance, which means we still get value in return.

If they're not as good as they're looking to be, you obviously run the risk of not maximizing the trade value, but you'll also have a much clearer picture of which ones stay and which one goes. And Lundkvist could once again be a factor in how that is approached.

Those scenarios considered, I think I really like what we have and would rather a deal or a player (internally or externally) "force" us to make a move. I don't think we're at point, no matter how things play out, where a move is necessary.
Yes. This seems like one part of the team to *not* mess with. Get a 1LD - somehow - and the defense is set. Skjei will be a terrific 2LD.

Glass is a freaking terrific prospect. A legit blue chip center who can shoot and play effectively in all three zones. Kid has playmaking abilities up the wazoo.

Don’t sleep on Glass.
Not sleeping on Glass, I don’t see why Vegas would have any motivation to move him though

Because they’re somehow in a win-now mode, believe it or not. They fired a consensus really good coach because they expect to have a big playoff run. I sense they’re willing to move anyone.

I'd be shocked if the Rangers moved Trouba and IMO it would almost certainly be a stupid move on our part. He's our main matchup defenseman and also our main penalty killing defenseman. DeAngelo and Fox (at least not yet) don't really do those things at least not with any regularity.

Jeff Gorton spent 3-4 years trying to acquire Trouba from Winnipeg. The Rangers aren't trading Trouba after one season regardless of how some people on this board are pushing that agenda.
