It is funny to think about. Staal can't skate properly on his own side, wouldn't be able to watch his shifts if he was on his off side.The amusing part of this thought experiment though is that despite how much prospect depth we have at D we legitimately don't have any right handed guys ready to step in on the third pairing in this scenario.
Keane isn't ready and Lundkvist is still in Sweden.
I'd be open to the idea of Smith as the 3RD, but no way Quinn goes for that. Staal on the right? Mild nausea.
The DeAngelo-Fox pairing may be putting the cart before the horse right now, with no ready replacement for 3RD, but before we sign DeAngelo long term it's probably best to make sure he's able to play the left side for when Lundkvist/Keane is ready.
