I think Shattenkirk's market is being swapped for another ugly contract but at forward. Said it in the Troubda thread but Shattenkirk for Perry and a small add makes some sense.
Shattenkirk and the Dallas pick for Lucic and 8th overall
New CBA = compliance buyout for Lucic

Would anyone be interested in Joe Pavelski? He's a bit on the older side but could be a good veteran presence to help Kakko and Kravtsov. Plus if he come to NY and gets injured he won't have to go far for medical advice. Trouba's girlfriend is attending school to become a doctor and will be around the team to help him recover.

I didn't think so before today, but Dr. Trouba might be enough to sway him.

A guy we haven't talked about is Pavelski. He's 34, doesn't turn 35 until July 11th, so his contract would NOT be a 35+ contract. He's likely to get a 3 year deal and just put up 38 goals.

He'll probably re-sign with SJ, but after the deal they just gave EK, they may not be able to afford him. They've got about 11 mil left, assuming the cap is 82 mil, and they only have 7 forwards under contract. Meier is going to get paid. Lebanc is looking at a nice raise too.
He’s 35 when the season starts (meaning training camps etc) and the contract officially starts. I think he’d be a +35 contract.

Wrong.

"If a player signs a multi-year contract and is age 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract), the players individual cap hit counts against the teams cap hit regardless of whether, or where, the player is active. However, there is one circumstance in which there is a cap hit reduction, a team will receive a $100,000 relief off of the teams salary cap hit, if a player is playing in the minor leagues after the first year of their contract."

Nope. The new year officially starts on July 1st.

All Player Salary and Bonuses earned in a League Year by a Player who is in the second or later year of a multi-year SPC which was signed when the Player was age 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the League Year in which the SPC is to be effective), regardless of whether, or where, the Player is playing, except to the extent the Player is playing under his SPC in the minor leagues, in which case only the Player Salary and Bonuses in excess of $100,000 shall count towards the calculation of Actual Club Salary;

He won't be 35 as of June 30th, so it's not a 35+ contract.

Shattenkirk actually looks better sliding down the depth chart. May have to go w him 1 more year as I don’t want a buyout and he’s of more value w 1 yr left

Brooks said that there has been no interest in Shattenkirk even at 50% retained. Hopefully that's just him speculating.
Definitely think Shattenkirk has value at 50%. 2 years x 3.25M is really cheap for a RHD who can run a #1 PP, and is still a 4 or 5 on a good team.

Tampa, for example, would be a really good fit for him. They were rumored to be interested in him a couple years ago (reportedly offered him 7x6M), need a righty D with Stralman becoming a UFA, and are in a cap crunch. Shattenkirk could play on one of their top pairs with McD or Hedman, and probably does not have Tampa on his no-trade list. Could see something like:

Shattenkirk @50% for Callahan (no retention, 5.8M for 1 year), Tampa's first this year and a conditional first if Tampa wins the cup in either of the next two years.

Gives Tampa a top-4 D and clears up a bunch of cap space for them. Rangers get a late first and some leadership in Callahan, who they can probably flip at the deadline for a mid-round pick.

I can't believe how well this rebuild has gone. I don't think I could have envisioned a better one to be honest. Holy hell, if these forwards pan out, we'll be a force. Just need to get the 2C.

This could also be an indication of how the RFA market will go. Chevy has 2 major restricteds. Is he worried about an offer sheet he couldn't match? Trouba was a low price, but it could have been worse with laine signing at $8m, returning only a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Would anyone consider Shattenkirk for Dustin Brown?

Brown has re-discovered his game the last couple years. I don't think LA would do it, and I don't think I'd want to take on the 3 years left on his deal should he revert back to being a slug.

Kreider Strone Kakko
