thats trouba's games...question was whether or not he was ever paired with brady skjei. not sure if its possible to find that info at this point

Anyone know how often Trouba paired with Skjei back in the USNDT? Maybe Gorton doesn’t see Skjei as expendable as some of us do.
They didn't give him that giant contract to ditch him a year into it.

Not sure how unpopular this is, but I definitely think Shattenkirk has something left in the tank. The Rangers have the salary cap space and means to get better up front. If Gorton can flip Deangelo and/or one of the young forwards into a more established forward, I don't really don't think that's a bad option. That, and I think using Smith on his natural left side has always been a much better fit.

Skjei-Trouba
Hajek-Shattenkirk/Fox
Smith-Fox/Shattenkirk
Staal

Staal and Smith can rotate on the bottom pair. If the Rangers get better up front, I don't think that's a bad defense, at all. Hajek and Fox will be question marks because of age, but I think you can live with that if the forwards are upgraded (they would be). Also, avoids a "buy out" for one more season, which benefits the cap situation. I also think Vesey and Namestnikov are very movable contracts, and Strome presents a very interesting situation that I think fell into their laps.

I think what they gave up for Trouba means there are more options on the table now than there were before. I don't think they necessarily need to force a salary move now, unless it involves moving a player for Panarin.

Definitely think Shattenkirk has value at 50%. 2 years x 3.25M is really cheap for a RHD who can run a #1 PP, and is still a 4 or 5 on a good team.

Tampa, for example, would be a really good fit for him. They were rumored to be interested in him a couple years ago (reportedly offered him 7x6M), need a righty D with Stralman becoming a UFA, and are in a cap crunch. Shattenkirk could play on one of their top pairs with McD or Hedman, and probably does not have Tampa on his no-trade list. Could see something like:

Shattenkirk @50% for Callahan (no retention, 5.8M for 1 year), Tampa's first this year and a conditional first if Tampa wins the cup in either of the next two years.

Gives Tampa a top-4 D and clears up a bunch of cap space for them. Rangers get a late first and some leadership in Callahan, who they can probably flip at the deadline for a mid-round pick.
With karlsson staying in SJ. This might become an even greater possibility.

I think Shattenkirk's market is being swapped for another ugly contract but at forward. Said it in the Troubda thread but Shattenkirk for Perry and a small add makes some sense.

Shattenkirk for Perry straight up, ANA retains $2 million so that the salary is a wash. What say you?
