The Stars and Mats Zuccarello,
as reported by Elliotte Friedman last week, are mutually interested in having the Norwegian forward return to Dallas. Both sides are also playing a bit of chicken in negotiations, but it’s believed that they have the same end goal after witnessing how well Zuccarello clicked in Dallas in such a short time.
This doesn’t mean Zuccarello won’t look at other options once the negotiation period opens, and it doesn’t mean the Stars won’t talk to other players. Yet there is an understanding that both sides are angling toward the same thing.
Losing a first-round pick to the New York Rangers in the 2020 NHL draft isn’t too much of a concern for the Stars when it comes to signing Zuccarello. His added value is believed to be much higher than a first-round pick, particularly one that could be late in that round.
Whether it’s Zuccarello or not, Nill said adding a top-six forward is high on his to-do list for this summer.
