Lets make sure we keep Claesson, he was our best defensive defenceman last year. Staal and/or Smith has to go

The dream would be to move one of those guys at their full cap hit. Even Shattenkirk would be great.

Tie an asset to Smith to get rid of his cap hit.

Hope Shattenkirk bounces back and trade him at the deadline, being up fox at the deadline to take his place.

By the end of next season you could be looking at

Skjei Trouba
Staal DeAngelo
Hajek Fox

With zero salary retained would be amazing. It would clear 11 million of cap hits.

but he is always just talking and making stuff up and never mentions that...and he said its not a message from the rangers to hank...RB aka larry is saying it could be a message from hank to the rangers lol

Brooks is always the first one to shut down any Lundqvist trade talk. The King wants to stay. The King is going nowhere. The King is The King. He is the one stirring the pot with Lundqvist.

Henrik's good buddy Kevin Weekes was talking about the Rangers #1 topic of their agenda had to be figuring out if their plans and Hank's plans are on the same page.

Someone is talking.

also would be odd timing to throw that piece out there to get clicks today when the trouba trade does that work for him...if larry is really just talking out loud, why not hold that for a day when there is no rangers news

I have no idea whether the Rangers intend to get rid of Shattenkirk or not but Fox will have a good shot at making the team right out of camp. I think some people are forgetting a lot about his background including two straight years playing on top pair for USA WJC--there aren't very many players who have done that and he's at least somewhat comparable as a player to Cale Makar. Does anyone think Makar's going to need some AHL seasoning next year? Maybe---but I'd be a bit surprised. Anyway the Rangers traded a lot for Fox because he is one of the best prospect D out there.

As for Shattenkirk--there's really no way around the fact that his first two years here have been disappointing. He is making a lot of money and he's underperformed his contract. It wouldn't surprise me if the Rangers did try to move on from him. And the same with Smith and Claesson.

Anyway the addition to the right side of Trouba is massive. He is one guy who can crunch minutes and play in all situations. Shattenkirk may be a veteran presence but he's not really an all situations defenseman.
Thank you for taking the time, so I don’t have to.
Fox is ready, he’s been ready, he would have stepped in and been on Carolina’s Playoff roster just like makar.

Guess it’s been too long since youse watched the rangers this season. Shattenkirk is not a good fit for what the rangers got going on now.

Skjei trouba
Staal ada
Hajek fox

(Maybe Smith is kept as insurance, or they bring in a guy in the 1-2million range)

Guys are over complicating this

They’re getting calls and having discussions about Buch. There’s a lot of interest there.

I’d put Buch second on the list of potential trades.
Without putting anything too on the nose or exposing a source, do you have an idea of potential return? 1st rounder, cap crunch return (Nylander or Ehlers for example), or similar player but positional need?

lets assume for a second that hank even wants to be traded and that Sj can fit him under the cap...both huge assumptions and both are probably not true, but we'll pretend...what does SJ have of interest to return? brooks mentions merkeley but I don't see us having any interest there with all the RHD we now have...I'd happily take their first. Also wouldn't say no to josh norris but doubt he'd be on the table...
The Russian American who played in the world juniors not this season but last season. Winger

I think Claesson should have Hajeks spot for now, but he certainly seems like he could be ready next season. Nils Lundqvist is someone I am very excited about in the future, I see him as an even more promising prospect than Miller to be honest.

Something like that though I'd get rid of Smith. Maybe Staal with Trouba (our best D) and Skjei (our 2nd best D)with either Fox or ADA. That might balance things out better but who knows--these things change a lot depending on how things are going anyway.

People should keep in mind though that Shattenkirk with his $6.something mil per should have been the leader of the Rangers defense corps the last two years and not just another guy. People wanted to hate on Pionk but in the meantime Shatty was getting sheltered from the toughest assignments and not getting nearly the grief. Not going to lie--I was kind of stoked when we got Kevin but he's been nothing but a disappointment and AFAIC that signing was a mistake.

Yeah they sheltered him alright. Like a rookie combat medic who’s never seen battlefield before

Reading the tea leaves, it seems like Gorton may have something lined up for Shattenkirk after closing the deal on Trouba so quickly. I understand he probably wanted to pull the trigger before he could be outbid after Karlsson signed, but I doubt the Rangers go into the season with Trouba, Shattenkirk, ADA, and Fox on the right side.

Shattenkirk is getting dealt somewhere at 50% retained, IMO.

I could see Hank playing in a few other cities. The cities I could see him in aren't really in much of a position to add him.

Either Florida club - If Boborovski is indeed headed there NG for Hank. But then what happens to Strombone? Is Strombone for another goalie a better option for the long term?

Tampa is on a serious cap crunch. They are probably going to be active in moving a player out. They have Vasilevski.

SJ has their guy in Jones making almost 6 mil for like the next 5 years. If Hank goes there they aren't going to spend that much on 2 goalies. The numbers just don't work.

Vegas I could see Hank on Billboard in a tux throwing dice at a craps table. He would sell tix there. But they have their Netminder already.

Dallas reunite with Zucc. Zucc isnt even signed yet.

The whole aspect of liking certain guys at the top of the first is ever-present, but talks certainly aren't narrowly focused on only that.

There's definitely an interest in Nylander, and he'll be a player whose situation the Rangers monitor closely.

With Buch, I know he's come up in various check-ins with Edmonton and Buffalo. However, I don't know how far any of those conversations went, nor do I do know who initiated them.

Not surprising. Very interested to see what sort of value is being attached to Buch right now.
The thing about Buch is he is still only 24. He is a .56 PPG player in his career. When he is healthy he has played well.

In 17-18 he scored 43 points. Age 22 season.

I think he can be a 50-55 point player on a good team and with more PP time.

Now, what is the value for that?

Smith is the odd man out and should be bought out if anyone were to be bought out. Skjei, Staal, Rykov/Hajek/Lindgren ... Smith? Shattenkirk is and can put up points still. Fox, unless he is super impressive, will be the 4RD this year and the Rangers can deploy him regularly next year without losing that conditional 2nd in 2020.

Why are we trying to trade buch? Isn't he the type of player we would be targeting?

I think it's with the idea of trying to shore up other areas. In 4 days the Rangers will have Kakko, Kravtsov, Chytil, Andersson, and Lemieux all in the mix of guys that (in some combination) are all likely to get looks and time on the wings this season. And that doesn't include the possibility of an extended Kreider or Panarin. So while the Rangers don't necessarily have the mindset that they will trade Buch, I think they are interested in exploring their options.

If Calgary walks away from Smith, Bob goes to FLA, that leaves Varlamov or a trade for Jones as options.

If I was a GM, I would rather go after a young, budding goaltender, than to take a flyer on Jones. His contract is horrendous. If he had 2 years left, I might agree, but I can't see any GM taking that on, no matter how desperate they are for a goalie.
