Vesey can be dealt for all I care. To me he's the only player left that can be traded and that I wouldn't mind going. Afaic Kravtsov or Kakko will easily take over for him.

Kreider, as said so many times is just to important for our locker room. He has to stay and re-sign a fair deal.

I don't understand why we want to trade Buch at all. He's shown growth at the end of last season. We have re-sign him and see what we have here.

Shat and Smith, I can't see any team willing to give up anything here. Just sit-out the bad contracts. We'll be fine.

I think Vesey goes. 50/50 on Kreider. Buch will stay unless he is a main piece for something like Nylander. Which is doubtful. Think we will swallow at least one bad contract for some more assets from a cap strapped team

What would a package for Nylander look like? Buch, Shatt at 50% retained and what else for Nylander and Horton?

I’d like Donskoi or Johannson as a replacement piece for very different reasons. I think Donskoi has another level to his game and i think Jo can help Lias tremendously.

At this point if we could trade Shatty and Smith for a few bottles of Lysol without retention I would sign on for that.

What UFAs do we like besides Panarin?

Without any idea of cost, at face value i'd at least inquire on Donskoi, B. Boyle, Ferland, Maroon, Kruger, C. Wilson. Some of them can be helpful beyond being stopgaps. I particularly like Donskoi and Ferland.

Ferland would be perfect if he didn't have all the injury concerns.

On a 1 year deal, I like Boyle.

On the potential pieces to add via cap dump front, and I'm surprised Viper hasn't suggested this, Would Vegas part with Carrier?

Oh I've thought about it. But if I were them, Reaves is the guy I shop due to his salary and UFA status. That and I think he has some value around the league

I don't really understand why we would trade Buchnevich at this point unless it was for a comparable center.

thats what i'm thinking...i can definitely see him available if they don't love what it would take to sign him long term or aren't sure where he fits with kratsov and kakko on RW...interest could also be coming from other teams not us shopping him. but my gut feeling (and this is based on literally nothing) is that the type of move we'd be looking at here is for another young nhl ready player that fits the team better.

unless you are getting a top 10 pick and a kid that you absolutely love, i don't see trading him for a draft pick or even a prospect

Yeah I don't see a good reason to trade beyond a concrete upgrade at center.

That's the point, IMO. If he's the piece that gets you into range for Turcotte/Zegras/Cozens/Newhook/Dach, then you move him. (Though I'd do it for Boldy too.)

Likewise, if he's the core player TML/TBL demand in a deal to move Nylander/Point, then you move him.

You don't move him for just anybody, that's for sure.

I think any Buchnevich trade would be to make this team better right now. We'd be getting the better player, and would need to give up more than just Buch.

One thing that I'm sure others picked up in the Gorton press conference is that he was having talks for a few weeks with Chevy when Trouba came up. Wonder what else they may have been talking about? We know Ehlers is available at this point. As we found out with this trade is that Matthieu Perreault was a player they are trying to move. Clearly we would not be in on that.

Have to wonder if they were talking Ehlers. His name has been out there since the end of their playoffs and with the Buch rumors floating, it would make sense for that kind of a move for the Rangers, and possibly the Jets. Would free up the money for Laine.

It think you may have a little more leverage with Tampa and Point. Tampa is about capped out and looking at Capfriendly hurting on D especially RD. Buch, Shatt @50% for Point and Callahan.

Yeah I suspect some of this is smoke coming from other teams sniffing around what the Rangers might want to move. He's a chip for the right kind of trade (part of a package for a Nylander, or to get into the top 10 again if the add isn't too steep), but he's also perfect to keep and develop on the team if there isn't a deal there

You understand that those two things may be mutually exclusive?

... yes, they MAY be. I understand that. On the other hand, I still don't see how Kreids stays and commands a big time contract.

Just because we don't have a big forward contract, we're supposed to give it to him/ he's supposed to ask for it?

There are parameters at play here and he should in and of himself not ask for more than say 6.5 million a year.

I think Ehlers would be an excellent LW option for Kakko. Ehlers covers so much ice and is so good at getting the puck up ice, he is one of the better skaters in the league. Sure, he isn't an elite winger in this league. But he is "only" -- it is "only" on today's market -- signed at 6m per.

Colin Miller might be a good fit for Winnipeg. 3.8m per for 3 more years. Would be nice if Gorts could work out a 3-way deal.
