You make it seem in your post that every player they need to sign is going to command a 8/8 contract which simply isn't the case. The team has a good deal of leverage even after ELC's have expired.

I feel as if we are too far apart to continue this. I do not make it seem like every player is going to command 8x8.

Buch/Chytil for a C on a decent contract.

Ship out Strome for assets

Sign a vet 4C on the cheap.

Sign Coleman. Sign Suter. Sign Hank or Raanta.

Lafreneriere-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Larkin-Kravtsov
Kreider-Goodrow-Coleman
Barron-Stepan-Blackwell/Gauthier

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Suter-Lundkvist

Igor
Hank

I don't think he's going to play on the 4th line. I expect Goodrow to play the exact same role that Fast/Blackwell played on Panarin's line and that he'll be around 15g 40pt spark plug. Playing with Panarin, he could be more. So far he paces for 30 points a year, purely at 5v5 and with 15 minutes a night on a shutdown line. Playing with Panarin 16+ minutes a night is a different story. Panarin is one of the best even strength point producers in the world and loves to have a guy like Fast/Goodrow on his off wing. If Goodrow's even a 40 point guy who takes the important draws and PKs, 3.6M won't be the end of the world. If he plays 12 minutes a night on the 4th line, it's a dumb signing.

If Goodrow finds a home fitting like a glove as a facilitator on a Panarin line, playing top-6 minutes, scoring 30-35 points, then it's probably a relatively reasonable deal.

Rangers are going to try to attempt to win a cup while Panarin is here, so outside of Fox get ready for lots of bridge deals with their RFA and ELCs

Which may be the case, yet then also expect lots of bridge deals to all end within a couple years of one another, and they all will be arbitration eligible at that point too.

(for those without a calculator that means if the player is good on their bridge deal their next contract will be more expensive than if they were good, and coming off their entry levels without arbitration rights)

Gomez and Holik were not above average 3rd liners when the Rangers signed them. Come on.
Gomez not so much, but you get the gist of the point. They aren’t overpaying a 3rd liner to play 2nd line, they aren’t overpaying a 2nd liner, and expecting 1at line numbers. They are paying him to be what he is, which is a high end 3rd liner

We can't afford all of Gourde/Tarasenko/Eichel

I even factored in zibb resigning @9...... I must be missing something ...we currently have cap plus Buch Strome come off and I had put in there Kracken retain salary. My calculations still had us with money left over but then again math was never my strong suit lol!!!

only one.

-seems like Senko to PHI after being selected by SEA
-Gourde most likely being flipped as well to MTL

-Eichel trade to NYR

This is a move you make when you are looking for the final piece in the puzzle.

We are not there yet.

Let's actually make the playoffs in a real season before we pay premiums on sandpaper.

This has all types of bad written all over it. Especially with future UFAs that know Drury is loose.

Except he wasn’t a 3rd liner when he signed it, and 6.5 for a top 6 winger with excellent pp numbers is not an overpay.
A lot of deals aren't overpayment when they are signed. Many turn out to be that way however, some sooner than others.

Yes, Laf came to the laps of this team in an awkward moment. Doesn't change the facts though.
